Latr sept fishing help

Featured Replies

Ok guys i am in Minnesota and will be fishing a weedline lake that is known for big bags of LMB on sept 30 i will be fishing as a coangler with a guy that likes to fish deep weedlines and loves flipping grass i am just looking for suggestions on what to rig up. I havr a 6'9 ml fast spinning set up a 7' mhf spinning a 7' mhf with a 6.3:1 reel a 6'9 mf with a 6.3:1 reel and a 7'6 hf with a 7:1 reel.

On the 7'6 heavy I'd rig up 17-20lb fluoro, 2 bobber stops, 3/8th ounce tungsten, 5/0 ewg hook and a magnum rage bug

I'd put a dropshot and a wacky rig on the spinning rods. A big walk the dog topwater if the weeds aren't to the surface, a frog if they are. Spinnerbait/bladed jig/swim jig depending if they're even an option over or around the weed edges. On the big casting rod, 50lb braid with a tungsten weight heavy enough to get through the grass, 4/0 straight shank flipping hook and a beaver or craw flipping bait (Strike King Rodent has been good for me this year).

What would you use as a trailer on the bladed jig/swim jig this time of year

I've been using a 4.8 Keitech swing impact fat a lot lately with fish starting to target the big gizzard shad around here. You'd probably do well with the same bait in a firetiger or similar color if you have yellow perch or bluegills as a main forage in your lake.

Yes our forage here are perch an bluegull no shad i tend to only use 3 colors for swim jigs black and blue white and bluegill just have not found a good swimbait trailer yet.

Top one is Perch, bottom is Sun Gill. These are from a custom bait company I buy from because they sell in bulk and offer lots of colors and baits.

Stupid question, but have you asked your boater for suggestions?

I've been having trouble with hook sets using chubby swim baits like those shown.  I think it is because I have been running the hook through the middle, cutting the effective hook gap too much.  Run the hook very close to the skin to avoid reducing the hook gap very much.
