Has anyone ever done this?

 

I mean add a spinner to the tail end of a Red Eye Shad (I don't mean the chipped paint - that happened when a bridge abutment moved into the path of where I cast my lure.  It's amazing how fast bridge abutments move.  LOL.)  It catches fish and has the same shimmy when you let the lure fall.  However, I do not know if it is any better than a non-modified RES.  I would like to know if anyone has tried this.  Size 3 willow leaf spinner is attached using size 1 split rings and a size 8 Spro Power Swivel.

Can't see why it wouldn't work.  My only problem is that I have a heck of a time getting them to stay buttoned up with 2 trebles.  1 might be even more problematic.  

I have a lucky craft blade cross that is similar in that it is a treble hooked hard bait with a spinner.  Havnt caught a thing on it.

I agree whole heartedly. I've had my heart broken a time or two fishing lipless cranks. Don't know why, but they seem to be able to shake loose from a lipless easier than any other crankbait. ?

 

I upgrade to Gammy short shanks on my Redeyes but still lose a few fish. 

Reminds me of a Mann's Lil George ....

 

An idea that goes back at least to the Bomber Water Dog. You can add a spinner to most crankbaits in some form or fashion. More recently, look at the LunkerHunt Hatch Spin, Bill Lewis Spin Trap, or the LC LV  Spin. Might be better on schooling fish where you don't need as much fall from the bait.

A lot of the waters I fish are filled with aquatic plants, so I've removed the rear hook off of most of my lipless lures.  Yes, the fish shake loose, but no more than if the lure had two hooks.  I don't fish tournaments so if I lose some fish it doesn't matter.  Usually the ones that shake loose are the ones that go airborne.

I used to do this to my Bill Lewis Traps back in the 90's. It helps make them a little more weedless, which can be helpful whenever you're burning them overtop of the weed tops. However, like others have said, you're removing half your hooks, which can hurt your hookup ratio.

The Spin Trap was a great white bass bait for me when I was growing up. 

Might be good for wiper, especially when you are in a school and need quick catch and release. I actually recently took off my rear hooks on a few lipless to address this problem. Put a bigger, beefier front hook since the tail end is where you get the most swing anyways. 

 

I'm gonna try this. What I'm curious about is how will it affect the action of the lure, or how will the action of the lure affect the blade... 

You better believe it! I run my rig on a LV 500 though...

It certainly looks like a good combo. I guess if you have the right blade size etc. it would be good in some situations.

 

I tend to add my blades to the back of swimbaits that lose tails, I started with the Senko, now I love adding blades to the fat impact style swimbaits without a tail and a jighead.
