I fished a buzzbait this morning, in calm conditions and close to shore. Got fish. The wind came up -- 10 to 12 mph. No hits on the buzzbait. I tried spoons, spinnerbaits and Bomber Long A. No luck. I was frustrated. What should I have tried?  jj

Hard telling . Maybe crankbaits and texas rigs .

    Yeah, maybe. The thing was, I was focused on topwater, and I have no idea what changed or how much it changed when the wind came up. The fish were there alright. I just didn't know what to throw.  jj

Change location. Move to the wind blown shore or point. If no luck there, move to the next drop off from where you were fishing.

When there is chop on the water I have done ok with the Whopper Plopper sometimes. 

 

Maybe because it floats you can go faster or slower than a buzzbait and that maybe what the fish want now. Or maybe they want it to stop and go. Something a buzzbait can't do. 

 

Windy days are one of the reasons I like the WP over buzzbaits and my old favorite the KVD Sexydawg.

I would have to agree with the whopper plopper definitely will make more noise. Probably would've gone to a crankbait and then a jig. 

    It happened again this morning, and I found out my answer  .....  at least for today. 10" Havoc worm, 1/32nd nose weight and slow, steady retrieve. Never woulda thunk it, not in a million years. A guy and his wife about 80' away stayed on top, and got skunked. Oh, well. That's what I like about fishing; you learn something new every day. Drives me crazy sometimes, but I learn something. I always do good with spinner baits in wind. Or a heavier jig and craw trailer so i can feel my lure in the wind
