Hook Cutters ????

Featured Replies

I was fishing on Lake Mead Last week and I was having a problem with small mouth eating my drop shoot vary deep so I just cut the hook and remove the the hook in 2 peaces. I was working on a fish and another angler came by and saw what I was doing, He let me use a tool that he had I have never seen any thing like but I would love to find one. It was like a ratcheting pistol grip Pop rivet gun with a cutting head on it a small round tip so you could reach down as far as needed clip the point off and remove the hook with no harm to the fish. Dose anyone have any idea on what this tool is called or where to find one. He told me what it was called but I should have written it down.

Snap On 808CF 6" long nose cutters work for light wire drop shot hooks.

Don't know of a pistol grip ratcheting cutter, sounds interesting.

Pinch the barb down on the hook, then learn to unhook them through the gills. You should be able to remove nearly 100% of deep hooked fish on a DS with that technique.

You have to try the knipex mini bolt cutters....cuts the thickest hooks like scissors through paper. Not cheap for $50.00 but will last a lifetime. Always on my boat.

This is what I use.

I keep them in a Plano StowAway water proof tackle container (the smaller one with yellow seal)  wrapped up with a cloth lightly coated with oil.

Would these cut thru big hooks like treble hooks on musky lures?

I do not know. I have cut 5/0 Superline hook with moderate pressure.

I carry these in my book bag. not the lightest but I've never had a problem cutting through any hooks.

9" compound lineman pliers will cut any hook, but isn't what the OP is looking for.
