On my flight back to Connecticut, yesterday, I found a new way to rig babies for night fishing:

 

 

Apparently, you'd have to use a different rig for babies that are 35 pounds and up. Has anyone tried it?

 

I found a different way to rig babies for night fishing a couple of years ago:

 

 

It didn't work for me, but a friend pointed out that there's a leader at the top of the rig, so we think that it's a trolling rig. I didn't try trolling it and lost a lot of babies. I lost so many that I ran out during the one night I tried it and never tried it, again.

The ones that give off a brown scent trail will only catch catfish...

This whole post is cracking me up.  I can't even think of how to contribute but just wanted to say I got a good kick out of this. 

I usually use a 16/0 circle hook and drift with them

In time God does put the scent into it.

I have a much better hookup ratio with the second rigging option. I suspect it's because they sit lower in the water and are easier for the fish to take fully into their mouth on the strike. 

I used to buy real baby’s but their expensive and not that durable so now I just by the fake ones same action and don’t break the bank.

Soft plastic babies just don’t have the same action as the live ones. . . .

I used to tease my sister that her Yorkie would make good muskie bait.  The thing disappeared a few years ago and the first thing she asked me was if I'd finally done just that.   I showed her a pic of me and a 52in. muskie.  You know, girls hit harder than you'd expect.

I have a nephew that just turned one................I don't think I'll show her this.  Playing it safe just in case.

Papajoe, is THAT what you meant by "take a kid fishing"?

 

Anyway, try dragging slowly along the bottom, or short hops. Sometimes dead sticking is effective, but takes more patience than most bass anglers have with babies.

I know it's best to give them a good soak, but it's hard to fight the urge to play with them.
