Shimano 50/51 Calcutta Owners, Reel Seat Question

Featured Replies

I have the Calcutta 51 and I am having issues of wobble when I mount the Calcutta to any casting rods I own. Really annoying when reeling. Or is there a way to add shims to the reel seat area to get rid of the wobble?

Do you own a rod that the Caluttar 50/51 won't wobble on? A couple rods, it's a bit tighter but you can still feel a slight wobble.

Any help, suggestions?

Interesting!

I have a Calcutta 50 that my two oldest sons "accidentally" slammed in a van door. Not only did the break a brand new G. Loomis rod but they twisted the reel seat horizontal.

I was working at time for Northrop/Grumman in the Fabrication Shop, one of my best mechanic & I drilled the rivets out. I straightened the reel seat. The two of us could not install new rivets no matter how hard we tried, later we found out the rivets were Monel® rivets.

Anyway we ended up installing CRES screws, nuts, & Loctite®, they've been there 20+ years.

Try some electrical/ adhesive/ painters tape on the reel foot (feet?).

Beat me to it. I have a couple of reel/rod combos that do that, and painter's tape is what I use, works great.

Yes electrical tape should help, but Im wondering if any thing wrong with your reel seat. I had cal 50 and never had problem with any rod I own.

Mine sits tight to both rods I fish it on (an Ethos Micro and Avid).

The tape is your best option if you can't get it fixed though.
