Opportunity for a Kistler rod.

Recommended Posts

I have a a buddy so to speak who is selling a Kistler Helium LTA 7’ medium heavy rod he70mhc. It’s it’s excellent condition, and a great price, at 75 dollars but don’t know anything about these rods. Can anyone share some insight on these rods and want you would use it for?

TackleTour did a review in 2003, been a long time since they made the LTAs. Search for it, they rated them highly. But that was 14 yrs ago.

It’s still a great rod. I traded some of mine and wish I had them back.

It depends on the year it was made. Kistler had an excellent rod in the Helium LTA when they came out but then 2 years later they switched blanks and had a really high number of rod breaks. If it is a rod from 2005 or 2006 then stay away from it.

He said the rod was 4-6 years old

I own a ML/F Helium 3, M/XF Helium 3, M/F Magnesium 2, and two MH/XF Magnesium TS (one casting, one spinning).

They’re sensitive, well build and cast exceptionally well.

My favorite is the Magnesium 2, with its Winn grips and rated 1/8 oz. lure weight rating make it my all purpose setup.

The LTA rods pre-date all of those, and Kistlers use of the NFC blanks by a very good number of years.

If it’s an original LTA series I’m pretty sure it has to be older then that.

So for 75 dollars it’s not worth it then?

There’s no KBB or NADA for used rods. It’s worth whatever YOU as the potential buyer decides it is worth to you. I just pointed out some facts.

To put it in perspective a brand new Kistler Helium 3 on sale will run you about $210-230 depending on the sale.

As as long as it’s in good shape it is potentially a lighter more sensitive stick then something you can get brand new for $75. I have zero experience with the LTAs so that’s speculation based on the TackleTour review and other things I’ve read.

Unfortunately living in Canada, prices on rods are much much higher. A Kistler Helium 3 is 419.99 on sale for 339.99 here. That’s the reason I was asking cause it seemed like a pretty good deal. What would you guys considering paying for it then?

The klx start around 329, up too 399 ish on sale for 299-339

I have several Kistlers (7-8), two are the Helium3's. Kistler brought back the Helium (due to popular demand) "lighter then air" LTA series a few years back. Not sure if the one your looking at is one of the original or the newer model. It sounds like it would be a excellent all around rod for use with 1/4 - 5/8 oz lures. I like my Kistlers a lot.

Exactly.

And...just curious (because I know nothing about that particular rod), are you considering 75 Canadian dollars?  Because, if so, the other US posters here trying to help might tell you 'of course' at US$60

Thank you, that’s a good point. Yes it’s 75 dollars Canadian.

Picked up the Kistler today! Looks to be in perfect shape, almost unused (which is what he had mentioned). Increadibly light, good back bone. Very excited to try this rod out. Like mentioned for 75 dollars probably not to many new rods I’d be able to get to even come close to this. Thanks everyone.
