Jig rod?

Featured Replies

I’ve tried many jig rods but haven’t sound the one. Anyone have any recommendations I want to keep it below 175. I really want to try the quantum G force rods or the quantum smoke s3 anyone tried those? Also if anyone has used the quantum rods which would be better for jigs about 3/8 to 1/2 the 7’4 heavy or the 7’2 medium heavy? If anyone has experience with these quantum rods or a good jig rod please let me know.

I would suggest you check out the Irods Genesis II rods. Back in the day, a friend of mine ran another fishing website. He became friends with the owner of Irod rods. A lot of guys liked two of those rods for jigs and big worms. One was the IRG744C and the other was the IRG754 Fred's Magic stick. I personally fish two different models of their rods and love them. They were light, sensitive and cost $150. Check out their website. You can order them from Tackle warehouse or any of their other dealers.

Umm dobyns, they seem to be super sensitive. I have a few daiwas and love them.

Powell Inferno ?

While Irod is very sensitive I hate EVA grips, they get wet the stay wet & so does your hands.

Never used either Quantum rod, but got to tell ya at that price I'd much rather have the Tatula 6'10" MHF from Jet for $93.28 with free shipping.  Matter of fact I did.  :teeth:  Not used it yet, but I have used a couple other Tatula casting rods so I know I am going to like this one as well.  AFAIC they are easily worth the $149.99 MSRP.

Now if you want to spend $175 then maybe a Dobyns Sierra might be a better choice.  Maybe.  I've never handled a Sierra so I couldn't say.  Beside the Inferno or iRod, possibly a Fury or new model Mojo.

I have to wonder what jig rods you have tried if you haven't found one you like yet, but are asking about rods costing $100 and $150.  If the other rods were in this price range, then maybe you should stretch your budget to try something like an ALX or higher end Dobyns/GLoomis/St. Croix, etc.  My guess is you haven't found "the one" because none have had the sensitivity you want.

I would keep an eye out for an used st croid avid or dobyns champion. I know dobyns has refurb champs for 180ish on their website.

I wouldn't suggest "stretching" your budget or buying used rod!

Powell Inferno, Dobyns Fury, Duckett Ghost, Abu Garcia Veritas, Daiwa Tatula, & Academy H2O are excellent rod within your price range.

Where do you plan on fishing these jigs? Type of cover.

if you are just looking for an all round jig rod take a look at the Shimano exage or for a little above your price range the Shimano Zodias both 7’2” medium heavy.

I fish from a kayak and only use 6-6'6" rods. Will these work for jig fishing? Have not tried jig fishing yet. Was looking at Fenwick Bass Elite Tech MH 6'9" if need a longer rod.

My brother and I both got Curado rods recently and I love mine. I have the 7’2” MH while he’s got the 6’10” also a MH. Nice rods, right around your price range.
