What do you guys think is the best flipping jig for bass? Which trailers and what colors do you use to catch fish? I fish crankbaits mostly, and want to learn how to consistantly catch bass on a jig.

Im trying to really start jig fishing.  Ive had luck so far with the eakins jig in green pumpkin and a brown color.

I really like the Booyah Boo jigs.  IMO, flipping wood and flipping grass are two different things.  A jig with an upturned, flat eye like the Triple Rattleback is good in wood.  A more pointed jighead with a straight eye is better for grass.  The Booyah Boo jigs are a combination of both.  The heads are pointed and the line tie is in-line, but the line tie is also slightly upturned and the jighead has broad shoulders and a flat bottom.  I have done very well in all covers with this style of jighead.

Vertical lures JIg X is also a great jig as there is no exposed line tie.  It is very much like fishing a Texas rig.

As for trailers, about any plastic bait will do.  The trailer adds action, but it also adds builk that slows the jig down a bit and moves water.  My favorite trailers are NetBait Paca Craws, Paca Chunks and ZOOM Super Chunks.

It's really amazing to me how many different styles of jigs there are.

I mean it's a hunk of lead poured around a hook with a skirt added.

but they are different and some are definitly better than others.

I've kinda settled on the terminator pro's secret, but I use booyah and the strike king bitsy flip when I want something tiny.

I like fat albert twin tails and hula grubs as trailers.

i like "stand up jigs" with a very bouyant trailer for me its the mann's stone jig and a berkley wolley hawg tail in green pumpkin

Strike King Pro-Model Jigs always get the job done for me. I pair mine with either a Zoom Super Chunk or Luck E Strike trailer.

I make my own jigs from Do-It molds. I also use Northlands Jungle Jigs alot!!!!  I use only 3 colors: Black/Blue, Green Pumpkin, and White. I use matching trailers with them.

For 3/8 oz or larger jigs, I like PJ's Flippin' Jigs in black/blue. For smaller, I like Eakins Jigs in black/blue and green/orange.

I tried jigs years ago with pork trailers and had no luck. I gave up. A couple years ago a friend of mine fished a jig and did pretty well. Early last year we fished together and he out caught me two to one on a jig. I was fishing a worm but he was schooling me. He also caught a 3 lb fish to boot. So I gave in and asked him exactly what he was fishing with. It is a black and blue 1/4 oz bitsy flip jig by Strike King. Every Walmart under the sun sells them. The trailer is a 2.5 inch black and blue swirl craw from Gander Mountain. I started catching bigger fish with the jig last year. I caught a 4 and 5lber back to back in March on that jig! I started throwing the same jig in a green pumpkin yesterday and caught one decent fish. I am not convinced that I should throw the green yet.

Tpayneful, what is the water clarity when u usually throw the grn. pumpkin jig. If its anything but clear use the black/blue. In my experience the grn. pumpkin and watermelon jig colors only work in clear to lightly stained water clarity color.

I am new to the site, but as far as a jig goes I like a 1/2 oz boo jig and a 1/2 oz. football jig. I mostly use black and blue, but if I am fishing clear water I like to use green pumpkin. The trailers i use are the baby paca craws and chigger craws that match the color of the jig.

For flipping grass I like a Persuader jig, but when I'm fishing wood I like a Terminator or All-Terrain tackle jig. My most productive colors are black/blue, watermelon flash, brown/purple flash, and Texas Craw. I fish all my jigs with Paca chunks or ZOOM superchunks in matching colors.

I've been using and have caught Bass up to 6.5 lbs on Vertical's Jig X but have recently been using the Wadda jig.  I really like the fact that it comes with a hand-tied, rubber skirt;  no rubber band that will dissolve away, allowing the jig's skirt to fall off.

                   My lake is usually clear but after it rains the lake might get a slight stain.  This weekend was the first time that I actually stayed with the green pumpkin jig.  Do you think the black and blug jig is acceptable in clear water during low light conditions?
