Huddleston 8" Trout Vs. Savage Gear Line-Thru Trout 8"

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any experience between the Huddleston and Savage Gear. Have you seen more success with one or the other in certain conditions? I have the Savage Gear and can't decide if the Huddleston will get me more bites. Any thoughts?

Huddleston fish great slooowww. Savage gear do not. They need more speed. Check out real prey swimbaits. Very nice baits.

Very different baits IMO. The Hudd is designed to be fished very slowly, often bumping along the bottom. The SG is made to be fished faster and has a much more active, escaping baitfish swim to it. SG also makes the 3D Real Trout that is more like the Hudd style bait, but I don't know if a bait will ever be made that can be fished as slowly as a Hudd and still have the swim that they do.

Agree with both comments above. I use savage gear only very shallow and as sub surface lure (slow sink).

the hudd has more tail action and is great slow retrieved.  the savage works best with a faster retrieve, doesnt have alot of tail get but more of fluid swimming action. two different actions

They're incomparable IMO. The Hudd shine when fished slow and has a very subtle tail action, the savage gear requires a faster retrieve and has a serpentine S-action better when the fish are more aggressive and willing to chase stuff, they were really designed for pike fishing.
