Does anybody have one of these? They are a 12ft. angler kayak that Costco is selling for $399. It looks nice and is budgeet friendly but I kmow practically nothing about kayaks. Would appreciate any info...especially from people who have one.

I don't know too much about that model but that is a great price.  Most people will suggest that if you have a small budget that you should look for a higher end model that is used on Craigslist or something like that.

I believe that is a thermo-formed boat.  Top and bottom are formed separately and glued together.  I'd prefer a roto-molded boat, though they cost a little more.

Hard to beat Costco warranty though...if anything ever goes wrong with this boat 4 or 5 years down the road, bring it back and get all your money back no questions asked. Not saying this warrants purchasing this boat, just thinking it should be taken into consideration.

Does that include replacing your gear that's at the bottom of the river?

 

I'm kidding with you.  If that's what you've budgeted for, and it gets you off the water, I'm all for it.

Got a picture of it? I looked at costco.com but that's

not listed among the offerings.

 

Even so, my first fishing kayak was a Pelican bought

at BJ's Wholesale Club, a 10 footer, thermo-formed,

and tho I no longer use it, my sons do. It's been through

some abuse and still does the trick in fresh and saltwater.

 

Paid, I think, $299. The paddle it came with was heavy

and one of my upgrades shortly thereafter.

 

Don't forget a good-quality PFD.

That'll be fine for kayak fishing.

Closely inspect the seam of the boat you take home.  If there's a flaw, or shipping damage, that's where it will show up first.  Now get a milk crate and start sliming it up!

OIC...that's what I thought but the milkcrate thing threw me...lol.

I don't think I'll be standing up though, I'm not what you'd call agile or graceful by any means . I'm 6ft. tall and weigh 240lbs., I want to keep as stable as possible when I'm on a boat...lol.

I don't think you'd be able to stand in that kayak anyway.

Can't tell from the pix, but does it say you can stand and fish?

 

To enhance your stability, you can look at either buying a 

set of stabilizers or make your own out of PVC and crab/lobster

buoys. There are lots of tutorials out there.

That kayak must be specifically made for Costco because I can't find it by that name anywhere and have never heard of Kicker.  Looks just like the Strike 120x Angler.  I bet they had them specially made just for them.  Ordered a ton of them and are able to sell them at a very low price.  Big box stores do this type of thing all of the time with numerous products.

You *could* in mine, but I agree with @Darren., it's not made for standing like mine.  You're going to want a nice waterproof cushion.  That seat doesn't look very comfortable for long paddles.  My OK pictured above had a similar seat.  My butt was sore after a couple hours in it.  I just tossed one of those throwable cushions on there and sat on that.  was much better.

I think your right. Dick's does the same thing. My Pelican Tracker Angler is a DSG exclusive kayak. It's basically a Trailblazer with 2 rod holders behind the seat and a bungee paddle holder being the only difference.

That' seat does look like its right on the kayak floor, ouch!

 

The seats on the Pelican sit-ins are actually pretty comfortable. I have found no need for a cushion.

That would be my concern. A kayak with a stadium seat would probably be much more comfortable.
