I use horizontal rod stagers on both sides and I also use the vertical holders on my crate if I have enough rods with me. I bring anywhere from 5 to 13 rods when I go out.

I fished some on Fox and on Puckaway. A cold front came in and the winds picked up so the fishing was slow for me. Caught some up shallow and the quality was great, just not the quantity. Next week I'm heading to Door County for the first time to find some trophy smallmouth. How was Sturgeon Bay?

I'm heading to Fox Lake this Friday. Have you heard any reports on how the bass fishing has been? I know the air temps have been consistently warm and we just had a full moon. I would think they are close to spawning.

I've had a NuCanoe Frontier 12 for about 6 years and a couple weeks ago I ordered a NuCanoe Unlimited. I haven't received it yet but I'm looking forward to rigging up a new kayak.

Where did you end up fishing?

I fished Elk last year for the first time. Looked like it had potential but we have very little luck. Every year is different though. That one year on Pelican was a fluke. We've fished it multiple times and it has never come close to that day. A local told us it wasn't a very good lake but I think it's just hard to fish most of the time. It has big walleye though.

We pretty much just work the shorelines and grass patches. Majority of the time we're throwing a spinnerbait or chatterbait. Topwater works great too, frogs and buzzbaits. Our group has been on just about every lake in a 30 mile radius of Alexandria over the years. I have not fished Minnewaska yet, we usually avoid the larger lakes, but I have fished Pelican a few times. Our greatest day of fishing ever was on Pelican.

I think this is my 10th or 11th year doing this trip. I've noticed there are very few smallmouth opportunities in that area. That's ok though. The largemouth fishing can be fantastic.

Thanks for the reply. My goal is to hit up Lake Ida and find some smallmouth. Trying to get better at fishing offshore. We are there for a week and fish about a bunch of different lakes in the area each year. Last year the bite was decent. Top water was great. I didn't catch a lot but the quality was great. Caught my largest bass of all our trips last year at 5.6lbs.

I like it. You never know what will work when, even when the odds are less. I remember catching them on a buzz bait in early April while it was snowing.

One of the great things about kayak bass tournaments is using TourneyX. They keep track of all my stats. I started off great but the rest of the year I couldn’t find the big ones. I've been storing mine right side up on two sawhorses in the garage for over 5 years now. I don't even take anything off of it. If anything I end up storing more crap on it.

I have the Motorguide Xi3 GPS model mounted on the bow of my NuCanoe Frontier 12. I don't think I would change a thing. It's by far the best accessory I've added to my kayak. Being able to anchor changes everything for me.

Are there any LOZ regulars here? I'm planning to fish there in April. I'll be kayak fishing so I really need to narrow down the areas I focus on. There is so much lake to cover that I'll be studying the lake all winter. Any advice would be much appreciated.
