Getting a friend into fishing

Featured Replies

My family and I were at the lake last year with some friends.  I took my fishing stuff and my buddy ask if he could try my baitcaster out.  So I set it up for him and showed him a couple of things and off he went.  He loved it and I let him use it as much as he wanted the rest of the trip.  Fast forward to this year he bought a Kastking assassin which is the reel he used at the lake, and an academy sports ethos nano 7’mh(he got for $25.). I set up a little box for him to get started out.  My question is there anything you guys would add to the box?

I did not see any spinner baits or buzz baits.

Snaps so he can change baits fast and not worry about the knot coming apart.

Your worm hook choice shows lots of heavy wire big hooks that may not be suitable for tackle capable of casting the hard baits you selected. I would suggest 3/0 standard wire worm hooks. Add some 3/16 and 1/4 oz worm weights.

I'd be your best friend too for all that tackle:)  I don't see any yamamoto senkos that is the only thing i think you could add.  That was one of the first soft plastics i used because it is so simple and it catches fish.  Now i mostly fish soft plastics.

With the recommendations from members above ..... that should cover most of the Food Groups. ;)

I would add some swimbaits and some spinners

edit: and you could also hook him with some decent line, small tackle box trays, a line conditioner, and oh yeah a little booklet with fishing info(legal sizes wise, bag limit, etc) you could pick up from walmart for free! Just to toss some ideas out there for you if you planned on giving him anything else than lures/hooks.

Let me add in that you are already giving them a lot of stuff and so don't think it's not enough and that you need to add in more stuff.  All these ideas are great but what you already have picked out is already more than enough.

Need a wacky rig tool with some O rings!  =D

I threw in a buzz bait as well just wasn’t in the picture.  He bought a pack of seniors and lizards.  He is going back to get some spinnerbaits. Thanks for all the ideas I will definitely add some more worms.
