Poison Tail mold modification

Does that lil nasty actually hold up as a swim jig hook? I've tried that hook in the round ball heads I make for my small swim baits and I've had problems with the hook flexing and losing fish.

Ordered some 30 degree Gami round bends. Should be here today. Looking forward to see how they fit in my mold. Ready to make some swim jigs again!

Those hooks are light wire hooks. They are designed for light line finesse applications. Think 6-8lb test. If you were using them with heavier set ups you probably would have issues bending them out. I use mine for light marabou and bucktail jigs and walleye/crappie jigs. I really havent gotten a chance to use them a ton but they have been good the little i have used them.

Here is an example of how i dress that hook and poison tail. Bottom yellow and black one isnt my best work, but i really like the white and black craft fur 1. I am not exactly the best picture taker either

So I got the 30 degree round bend Gami's in the mail yesterday. Just like the Mustad 32786, I can't fit a 3/0 in my 1/4 ounce spot. I can not completely close the mold with out forcing it closed and it makes the head come out crooked. The 4/0 hook will fit my 3/8's spot.

I use a 60° mustad hook that goes to the brush mold jig for my poison tail mold. I have my poison tail set up to pour spinnerbait as well as underpins. Only thing you have to do is get a propane torch and heat the eye area of the hook up to a glow and bend it out to fit into the mold. Super easy to do

Don't bend back the hook in the same spot as it will really weaken it. Bend like the hooks in the pic above as it works without stressing the same spot on the hook.
