First Boat

Featured Replies

A 1973 Grumman aluminum canoe. I consider it my first boat, since it was fully rigged with TM, electronics, running lights, rod holders, seats, Georgia registration, and I built a custom trailer for it. I still have it, but it's stripped of everything for creek use.

Congrats on your first boat!  8-)

I don't remember the year but it was an early 70's Tomboy bassboat.  An old bathtub style hull.  Had a livewell and two small storage areas under each seat. No raised casting decks.  stick steering with a 35hp Johnson motor.

my dad got me a 1952(i think) aluminum rowboat...14'...for my highschool grad gift.....he patched a big hole in it, pounded out a dent, threw on a 7.5 HP merc, painted it red....and thats when "the red torpedo" was born...i caught alot if smallies in that boat on cayuga lake in NY...good times

14' Landau aluminum johnboat.  I still have it.  My dad got it for me for Christmas when I was 14 yrs. old.

A 14' narrow aluminum flatbottom with a 7.5hp gamefisher. A handme down from my Grandfather. Great boat for creek fishing, not so good on the main river. Took her out one time and got caught cross river from home by a incoming storm. The wind blew so hard I wound up going across & with the waves 2 miles upriver from my takeout site. Followed the bank in on fumes. I would still have it today if not for a huge oak limb falling across the middle and making her just so much scrap metal.

Twelve foot Delhi jon boat that I turned into a great small water bass boat.  I caught the best fish of my life out of that little boat.  I recently sold it to a seventeen year old kid in the neighborhood who is using the daylights out of it.

A 1970 Falcon Tiger Bass boat Tri Hull with 1974 50 Hp Johnson maclaine Trailer for $450. Still have the Johnson but the Tiger gave up the ghost years ago.

Congrats on your new toy.

Ugh....a 10' jon boat armed with a small trolling motor...leaked to where I had to take cup's with me to pale the water out, and generaly just the biggest turd out on the water, don't remind me :-p

I just got my first boat as well.... welcome to the cool kids club.  1969 16ft Chrysler w /35 Horse Merc.  Needed alot of work, but it's a bass fishing machine now!!

Man, I remember back about that time Jerry McKinnis was sponsored by Chrysler and fished out of their boats.

1985 Performance  15ft, 70hp Johnson

My first boat was a home built wooden hull with an Evinrude 7.5 hp; my first bass boat was a Lowe Line Hustler stick steer Evinrude 70 hp, Evinrude 18 pound thrust trolling motor, & a Hummingbird Super 30 Flasher.

Mine was a 14 ft. Duracraft w/ 20 hp Johnson.I now have a 21 ft. Stratos w/250 Mercury.I probally learned more out of the johnboat.

red plastic canoe but more importantly,.....

CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK WITH HER!!! ;)

1972 16 foot Ozark Tri-Hull. White with a green racing stripe and a 65 horse Evinrude. MINT condition.

Little old lady wanted $3,200 hundred for it. My buddy and I were going to go in 50-50 on it. Then he talked her down to $1,600. I told him that for $1,600 I didn't need his help and I bought it out from under his nose.

:;)

20 years later and he still gives me grief.

My first boat was a 12 Monarch aluminum john boat when I was 14.

I also just got a used stratos.  Bought a 92 201 pro a month ago and love it....I fished Lake Kissimmee this weekend in a 30 mph wind and felt very safe in it....good luck with your new toy

My 1st was a Coleman Crawdad I picked up for $50 many years ago. A pain to load in and out of the truck by myself but a nice little boat. Sadly she's been sitting for quite so time. :-[

1964 Texas LoneStar Vee Hull.

My father in law traded it for a shotgun...2 weeks later we found out it was a collectors item and since mine was all original and still had working cable steering with all the original pulleys, the original motor, original seats etc it was worth a small fortune.
