Neko-shot

Come on, admit it.  Someone out there has tried fishing a drop-shot tied bait over a Neko rig... fess up and spill the beans about how it worked!

My first thought: "Why didn't I think of that!"

My second thought: "wait a minute -- how would this be any different than my typical experience with a drop shot or a neko alone, other than the (off) chance of doubling up?"

My third thought: [shrug] "heh, why not?"

I'm not a fan of skirted jigheads with "weed guards".  They bury themselves too often in rocks and usually require more than a sweep-set.  That said, the Neko rig and drop-shot are presented and retrieved very similarly, as well as, both techniques employee a sweep-set effectively.  Fished 20" apart maybe you've got that "lookin' down/lookin' up" thing covered.  I usually use a leech pattern bunny "hare" tied bait when drop-shotting.  It is virtually weightless when fished and would just follow along as the Neko rig is actively fished.

Just an interesting idea as I wait for the rest of the ice cover to melt from my local lakes...

I've never done a Nekoshot, but I have used a shakeyshot before with a little success

I posted this question last spring... anyone give it a try this past season?  I didn't find myself in likely situations to give it a try...  maybe this year???

It would be interesting...if it wasn't possibly illegal - I'd check with Iowa DNR to be sure.

From Iowa's Fishing Regulations - https://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/fish/regs_fish.pdf

"When fishing by hook and line, you cannot use more than two lines or more than two hooks on each line when still fishing or trolling...When you are trolling and bait casting, you cannot use more than two trolling spoons or artificial baits on one line."

This is also illegal in Minnesota - which precludes the Alabama Rig as well.

I've tried drop shotting with a tube as my weight for smallies. Didn't work any better than either by themselves so I didn't find it necessary to add extra hardware.

@RichF which bait caught the fish, the tube or the dropshot bait?

Most of the time it was the tube.

I've had decent success using a Ned rig on the bottom of a drop shot. So is that a Ned shot?

Cool.  And which one gets the most bites in your case?

Fishing for smallies on Lk St Clair they bit the bottom bait roughly 3:1.
