Pelican Bass Raider pre-wiring sufficient for a 55lb Minnkota TM?

Hey guys, I am new to these forums, so I apologize if I did not post this correctly the first time.

 

Hey guys, I am new to the forum here, but have used it for ideas and different mods on my Pelican Bass Raider 10E, so thank you for all of that. 

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the 8AWG wiring that is pre-wired in the boat. I have mine set up so that I can run my 55lb thrust MinnKota Traxxis in the back of the boat, and keep the battery up front. I am a big boy (275lbs on a good day), so as I stand towards the back/center, I can keep the extra weight of the 12V battery up front to keep things balanced.

I recently purchased the TM plug to utilize the wiring inside. my second time out, the 40amp inline fuse melted, but didn't pop the fuse. After reading up on this, it seemed that this might have been because of a poor connection inside the fuse. To replace it I purchased and am waiting on a 40amp inline flat fuse holder which I am going to install upfront, closer to the battery.

My concern however is that the 55lb TM may push too much amperage for the length of the 8AWG wire and the 40amp flat fuse i just purchased. 

Has anyone had any issues after switching to a new flat fuse with the fuse constantly popping, or still with the fuse holder melting.

I would get rid of the fuse and put in a 50 amp circuit breaker

I'm not sure about dc voltage but in normal wiring a 40 amp breaker is the max allowed on 8 gauge wire. If you go to a 50 amp breaker you might overheat the wire before the breaker trips.

since I already ordered the 40amp inline fuse, im going to give it a shot. i made a backup set of jumper wires incase i have any issues. This way if im out in the middle of the lake i could just take the battery, put it in the back and either continue fishing or head into the dock. 
If that fuse is an issue though my next thought was to buy the minnkota battery box because it comes with a 60amp breaker on it. 

I hate to even say this because it never seems to work out.... but fingers crossed that everything will be fine with the 40amp fuse.

Its actually that chart from the minnkota website that caught me all flustered about the 40amp fuse situation. but thanks anyway for posting it Lonnie. Im not going back into it though because i just got my blood pressure back down! haha

So, you cannot use the pre-existing 8g wiring in the 10E with a 50 lb thrust motor in the back and the battery in the front since the limit for 8g wire is 5 feet according to the table?

The bass raider atleast now has 10g wire. On my other yak pwr 100, it has 10g as well, I use a 55lb on ot for years with the inline fuse it came with. 60amp iirc. 

 

Never had an issue, id prefer thicker gauge wire though to prevent voltage sag. It still does 4.7mph with 55lb and apc prop with motor clocked to gain more rpm. You need atleast a 60amp.

I wish the OP could tell us how his trolling motor and wiring choices worked out.  Unfortunately,  he has not been here in over 7 years.  😀

I use the factory wire  with my 55lb thrust endura max. The motor is mounted in the front the battery is in the rear with a 50a breaker. Never have problems unless I’m in thick weeds then I’ll trip the breaker hear and there.
