So yesterday I went fishing with my younger brother (he is 14) and I was using my baitcaster and he was really interested in learning how to use it. I am stuck between the Abu Garcia Black Max or the Silver Max, out of the two what would you recommend for a beginner Baitcaster? Also I’d probably get a $40-$50 rod from Walmart , what would you recommend rod wise as well? Thanks everyone!

If you can swing it financially I'd personally go with a fuego ct ($70 at cabelas right now) and a fuego rod. If you're willing to shop online you're looking at 120ish. Gonna be a combo he can run for a long while. I have a silvermax, ran it forever. Still run it sometimes. Great reel. Big for like 20 bucks more the Fuego is really hard to pass up IMHO.

I used to own some black max and silver max. The silvermax didn't warrant the price increase, get the bm. For rod, get yourself the new berkley lightning rod ($40 at DSG).

If shopping online, get yourself a fuego ct ($65 ebay with 10% off code) and Fuego rod ($45 ebay).

Academy is having a combo blow out of sorts.  All of these are probably free shipping.  Pick one in your budget.  There are Silver Max and Black Max combos.

I got my oldest son a Black Max with a Cabela's Pro Guide combo for $60. The Pro Guide felt like it had good sensitivity, but he caught a lure in a rock, we had the drag set at 2lbs and it just shattered the rod in several pieces at the joint, so I bought him an Ugly Stik GX2.

A Berkley Shock or Abu Garcia Vengeance rod in MH/F would have probably been a better option.

The Lews American Hero combo should also be good.
