Petroleum Smell *woof*

Featured Replies

I just got a bunch of new plastic baits from different mfrs and they reek of a petroleum smell. While I realize plastic is petroleum based, I can't help but wonder if this is safe. I also have a bunch of 15+ yr old plastics that stink just as bad and was going to throw them away.

1) Is this normal?

2) Do fish shy away from this smell?

3) Should I wash them before use? If so, is there a particular detergent to use?

Any insight is appreciated.

Alot of people complain about the smell of unscented plastics, personally I normally fish scented baits so I haven't encountered this but what I could deduce from other threads it's normal and fish don't really seem to mind the smell

Fish don't care, but it's really easy to buy some scent and spray it on or dip your baits.
