Lews bb1 speed spool

Featured Replies

Hey guys so the ones who responded to my thread not too long ago, I decided to go with the BB1 speed spool.

Right off the bat, I'm having a minor issue on taking the side plate off, I was able to get it off the first time, but it was sorta difficult. I thought doing it a few more times or so would help but I did not notice it getting easier or anything. As of right now, I can't get it off... Any suggestions?

Loosen the spool tension?

I did, yes sir. Still cant get it off

should be able to pull the pin then twist the side plate up towards you. I own several Lew's Reels and love them.

^^ what he said. It should not be difficult

Hm interesting, give Lew's a call, they know the reel the best and I'm sure they would be willing to replace it (Or through whomever you purchased it through)

Yeah guys I heard such good things about lews and is why I decided to purchase this reel. Honestly not sure if its user error or theres a problem with the reel. I brused 3 of my fingers trying to get the side plate off and gave up lol , gonna try again tommorow morning.

I own 6 BB1's, so when I read your problem I had to go and see if I was doing anything different to get the side plate off. Nope, nothing different, just pull the pin and twist the plate off. You should not be hurting any fingers getting it off. Something is wrong, bet calling Lews will get this problem solved.

Joshfrombolo: Did you get your side plate off?  I want to emphasize what's already been written above... The "thumb screw" looking latch pin on the opposite side of the BB-1 reel is spring loaded and pulls straight away from the reel.  Hold the latch pin away from the reel as you twist the side plate up to take it off.  This is different than a Revo (and maybe other reels) which have a threaded latch pin and require un-screwing the pin!

I appreciate everyones help and advice yall! I'll continue till monday to try and mess with it and see if I'm missing any little tricks or anything to pop it off, if not. I'll give lews a call and hopefully they will be able to help me out.

Update, I was able to get off the side plate several times with the help of the edge of the table lol. I still cannot get it off with just my hands.

I now realize when its "shut" its not all the way closed, somethings preventing it. The pin does'nt go all the way back in either.
