put cork sealant on the cork and it left a yellow spot. What can be done about this?

U-40 is almost clear so not sure how this could happen. I've been using it since I can remember and never had that issue. 

It's either an imperfection or stain in the cork that the sealer brought out.  As mentioned U40 is pretty much clear.

Never had spots when using it, got to be the cork.

As said above, it must have been something on or in the cork.  I'd hit the area with some 320 paper to remove the stain and recoat.

Thanks gents, first time I have had an issue with this process. Of course it is my favorite new fly rod.... will get it repaired with that warranty, hopefully.

Hey, so use 320 grit and lightly recoat? That wont damage the cork?

No.  You're only taking a small amount of cork off the surface.

Ah. I am not super handy, so how long should I use the sandpaper against the cork? Does it matter? 

Just lightly til the stain disappears.  It shouldn't take more than a couple passes with light pressure.

If you're not comfortable using the sandpaper because of how aggressive it is, you can try a Magic Eraser or a grey (fine) Scotch Brite pad.  They won't take as much material off per pass as the sandpaper.

If you don't want to use sandpaper, how about MAGIC ERASERS?  I use them to clean up my cork on any rod that I didn't previously use cork sealer and it cleans them up NICELY
