Weighing fish in a grocery bag?

Featured Replies

The only fish I weigh in grocery bags are the fillets of fish I keep which are saltwater fish. I don't weigh any bass in a plastic bag and rather weigh them by the mouth.

That seems more humane. Could you tell if fish grips also make removing the hook(s) from their mouths easier, in that you would have a better grip on the fish (and thereby can remove the hook faster) as compared to holding it directly by hand? If so, I'll

definitely be buying one.

The initial reason I bought one is for unhooking fish . Its not really easier but a lot safer .

Thanks. That is what I was hoping to hear.  I caught my first buzz bait bass just last month and when I started to free it from the hook the bass shook violently enough that I let go and it fell on loose ground such that one side was completely covered in dirt. I felt bad for the bass because his condition was solely due to me. At least he swam away vigorously, if only to get the mess off of his body.

I will get this fish grip thing if it could help me minimize dropping them.

Never gave that much thought with a bass but if you catch a Muskie or decent size Walleye or Pickerel they come in handy. I've been getting alot of freak catches like that the last few years.
