I currently own all 3700 boxes and take 5 or 6 with me in my kayak.  My issue is that I feel like some of my boxes are not item specific enough.  For instance my "lead-head" boxes contain jigs, chatterbaits,spinnerbaits,swimjigs,hair jigs.  However I cannot accurately sort by size and have run out of room for my jigs where i have them all tossed into 3 slots.  If I get 3600s I could have a dedicated jig box with additional heads and skirts.  I could also improve my crankbaits (size/style) and terminal tackle storage (finesse box, punch box,swimbait and toad box etc).

 

What is the downside to this train of thought?  Do some of yall get this detailed or do most prefer a large box to throw all your toys in?

I carry 3600 boxes when I'm out fishing. For soft plastics I organize by hook size or rod/line used. For example my 10" worms, big lizzards, 7" senkos all go in one box because I use magnum ewg hooks with those. Jigs i sort by size and color. 2 colors of each size, 5 Jigs per color. Trailers get their own box, swimbaits, and craw trailers. Flipping and punching baits get their own as well. 2 boxes for cranks, 1 for hooks and weights, 1 for frogs, and a soft plastic binder for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits. I carry way too much tackle!

I carry all 3600 vertically divided Plano boxes for everything except terminal tackle which is a 3700 with glued in dividers.

Creatures

Top water

Chatterbait and Jigs

Crank, Jerk and Traps

Swim baits and trailers. 

 

Spinnerbaits and 10" worms are in a separate compartment in the bag

I also use 3600 boxes for bank and kayak fishing.  They fit in backpacks and crates better I think.  I also sort them into little kits, so like plastics and the hooks/weights or jigs and trailers.  If I am traveling very light I will pack a single mixed 3600 with a bag or two of spare plastics.  

For the most part I use 3600 boxes on the water and 3700 for storage at home. When fishing places I'm familiar with, I can get away with 4 3600 boxes (actually 4 lures if I'm being honest). I will pack several 3700 boxes when traveling on a multi day/location trip to places I don't know well. I almost didn't make it up the PA inclines going north to 1000 Islands from all the tackle weight, and ended up using maybe a dozen baits. 

I only carry Deep 3700 Hydroflo boxes.

I only carry 3700s for lures and plastics. The 3700s I use for plastics have no dividers. I keep 3700 boxes item specific but when I fish tournaments as a co angler I can’t haul my whole arsenal so all of my boxes are mixed but organized. As long as you can locate everything you're good.

I have been using all 3600 for my bass lures. Still trying to figure out assorting terminal gear

Consider using Plano 3771 or 3701, they are quite a bit thinner than a standard 3700. I have terminal tackle, jigs, cranks, topwater, in 3771 boxes, and plastics that I’m using that day are out of the package and organized nicely in a standard 3700. I carry 3 or 4 bags of plastics that I might throw in the back pouch of the bag. A small thin spinner bait box holds 6 spinners. All this comfortably fits in a “smaller” 3700 Plano Walmart bag. With everything, sunglasses, scent, leather man, hook cutters, first air kit, etc, I’m at about 19 pounds of gear. It’s a good system for me for tournaments, but I’d definitely take less if I was in a kayak or from the bank. Plano makes a really thin 3600, I forget the number. I love downsizing, I’d like to downsize more. But what I have now was a big step for me towards downsizing lol.

I use a bass pro backpack and carry a multi tool, sunscreen, glasses, line, scale, water. Comes in at about 11lbs total weight.

That’s the number! Nice system. Your plastics are basically how I have mine. 11 pounds of gear is more than enough, very manageable.
