I'm new to baitcast fishing and I am moving on from spinning setups (I knew this would happen returning from a long hiatus, plan on keeping my ultra light spinning setup though).

 

I have three casting reels based on what I have learned from this forum. I fish a small local pond mostly. It's convenient, it's not very deep, 6-8 ft. It's weedy in spots and have seen some good size bass in there lately 3-4 pounds, lots of bluegill as well. I'm re-learning so help me decide do I keep all three baitcast reels or can I get away with 2 bc setups from the below? Lately I have been interested in casting with light lures around 1/8 ounce.

Daiwa Tatula SV TW - 6.8:1

MH-F Abu Garcia Veritas rod 1/4-1 ounce

Not sure moving away from spinning is a good idea.  Why would you want to replace a slot head screwdriver with a Phillips head?  You want to add to your tool kit, not subtract or replace.

I agree with @J Francho here.

 

While I've actually gone the other direction - I mostly use spinning

now, pared down my casting gear. I set out to go casting-only and

ended up concluding (for me) spinning met the majority of my needs,

for a variety of reasons. But for some uses I still prefer casting gear.

They both have their place.

This^. I'm a bike mechanic and hobby woodworker, so I really preach the tool analogy.

I would keep both, casting and spinning.More versatile tools to add to your setup

Until this past weekend, I was in the same mindset as you.  Go all casting setups.  I'm new to fishing, so I never got a spinning setup.  Just went right to baitcasters.  Well, that's changed now, lol.  Went on a family vacation and my son and I didn't have room for our fishing gear.  We figured we'd each buy a two piece spinning set up cheap at Wal-Mart.  Just for the weekend.  Fast forward, and I found myself in love with my cheap, $20 Shakespeare Cirrus spinning rod (Medium) and reel.  Gave me a whole new love for Texas Rigging.  It's now my T-Rig setup, lol.  

 

Different tools for different jobs.

I only see five reels mentioned.....IIRC, there's currently fourteen combos in my truck ...what was the question again?

It seems the consensus is to keep my spinning setups, in which I will do. I want to keep  a total of four rods/reels from my original post. I have 3 baitcast reels in my arsenal, in your opinion could I pair this down to two baitcast setups?

The Alphas SV will replace a spinning reel with light baits but will need a rod.  Those reels can cast and skip like a spinning reel.  I really like 2 I have.  One of them is on a dedicated small bait dock skipper rig.  

 

If you want to be cheap about it you can sell the Alphas and use the two egg beaters but they will be worse with flourocarbon line.  The Alphas SV should still have some value left in it assuming it is in good shape.

This info is where my mind is at. I'd like to see if I could get the Alphas SV to tackle most of my light finesse needs. This being said, with my spinning reels and my finesse casting setup I feel like I can get away with 4 rods in my total arsenal. Love to have more tools in my tool box but I feel that 4 sets would be ideal for the amount I will fish. Goes something like this. Love to hear your thoughts, do I have bases covered?

 I was thinking 4" plastic worms and 1/8 jig heads, possibly drop shots with 1/8 weights.

 

The reason I was trying to eliminate my spinning setup for the above applications is because on a recent trip to Flat Head Lake in Montana both my spinning reels suffered from serious line twists, but that a different story. Did I forget to mention that casting is way more fun.
