I have an opportunity to purchase a nrx for a great price. I’ve been waiting for a good deal on a glx or nrx 894c as I missed the last one and its eating me inside. While waiting I stumbled across the 853c and it’s got me thinking. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this rod? What do you use it for? 

853c is good for worm.  Not enough power for 3/8 jig plus trailer.  A real extra fast rod with stiff tip. Collecting dust here.

I’m looking for a rod to handle generally weightless senkos, 1/8ozbullet weight added sometimes, weightless or light t-rigs, small paddle tails, flukes kind of thing. I’d like to try the occasional dropshot or shaky head.

 

you don’t like the rod too much?

I would recommend the  glx 852c for light tackle. A very versatile rod.

I was debating the 852c as I figured it would be better for the shaky head and drop shot, but thought it might struggle a little more with paddletails on a 1/8-1/4oz swim jig head, fluke with nail weight for depths. I thought the 853 might be better in the depths. Do you have both? I’d like love get one of these rods. 

I have the GLX 852s. I believed 852c has the same blank.  It can handle weight up to 1/2 oz. 

If your talking about the NRX either of the 3 powers, 853 or 893 are plenty for a 3/8 oz jig. I've fished 5/16-3/8 oz. finesse jigs on the 803 without any issues and to me it fishes softer than the 853.

Personally, if I were looking for more of a moving bait rod vs bottom contact I'd look to the 843/844 GLX.

The MBR is more of a all purpose taper than the JWR.

I have the Conquest 842c and 843c. Great for reaction bait.  842c is my top water rod. 843c for charterbait, spinner and lipless crankbait.  

I don't think there is a rod that cover finesse and jig techniques.

Stumbled across the deal on the glx 894c jwr again so picking that up hopefully Wednesday as it’s on hold!! Can’t wait to get that one. Now just have to decide between the 852c, 853c and 893c. The 852c is something I don’t have in stock around me, but the other two are. But willing to wait a little bit. The 894c will be paired with a chronarch mgl and the other will most likely wear an aldebaran or chronarch mgl

I"ve got a GLX 853C and I love it. Perfect for 3/16-5/16oz t-rigs, or for smaller jigs around 1/4oz plus the trailer. 

I use the nrx 893 for weightless senkos and shakey heads.  it works great for those techniques for me.  I am sure the 853 would do well for you with senkos, especially if there is in any amount of cover you are fishing in.

Awesome thank you, I still can’t seem to find the 852c anywhere but have found multiple 853c’s in the glx and nrx. Might try to go this weekend to take a peak at them. I’m thinking that’s probably the way I’ll go. I fish a ton of pond and from boat and worried the 893 will limit my pond fishing. I can see where it would be great for deeper water but fish more shallow then anything and figured the 853 can make do in the deeper stuff for now.

My 853c works for my heavier tube rod 3/8oz, I also use it for 3/8oz with 3.8" keitechs.

 

Both are amazing rods, the 853c has some serious power.

Thanks everyone! I’m picking up the 894c tomorrow after work, and Saturday I’m going try to pop by all the local stores to get my hands on the 853c, and 893c and hopefully the 852c. I want the 893 because no matter where I look everyone speaks so highly of it but I feel like it might be a touch long when I fish my local pond and it grows up quick there so a shorter rod comes in handy for sure! When on the boat there won’t be a problem. The 852 seems to be very popular as well, never even considered it until everyone just recently mention I should go that route. Every store I go to is sold out! I feel like the 853 would be great but just got me worried when everyone seems to go 852 or 893.

Did some caling around again again today and still can’t find the 852c in stock. But will go take a look between the 853c and the 893c. Just got home with the 894 and that’s one sweet feeling rod. Hopefully fish it tomorrow

Haha thanks but if I go to sell the 853c cause it’s not what I want I’ll be getting the 893 or 852. Pretty set on loomis

So went out today and found one! I know they aren’t nrx’s but found the 852c in stock and it felt awesome so figured I’d try it! Gives me the chance to get the 893c later!! Going out to try them now! Thanks everyone
