First fish on the new rods! Pics

Featured Replies

I’ve been going back and fourth for about 2 months now on if I should step up and try the higher end loomis rods. Well I posted a thread month and a half back or so and found a great deal and waited too long and missed it. So about a week ago I posted another and you guys gave me some great advice and when I ran across the deals again I didn’t hesitate.

Friday night and and Saturday morning I went out and got myself a g. Loomis glx 894c jwr and a glx 852c jwr paired them with chronarch mgl’s.

I went out Saturday afternoon to a local pond to try them out. I tied on a 1/2oz Zman jig with a reaction innovations kinky beaver and 3rd cast on the 894c I stuck a beauty 4.75lb largie!

Very next cast I hooked a nice 3lberdzeFSE.jpg

i set down the 894c and picked up the 852c. Wow what a light beautifully balanced rod. I threw a 5” senko on and picked up a few more nice fish, but nothing worth weighing for numbers, guessing all in the 1-2.25lb range. That little rod has loads of power for such a small rod.

just wanted to say thank you everyone who helped and pointed me in the right direction! I know I was looking for the 853c but figured the 852c would take care of my finesse problem a bit better and leaves it open for a 893c in the not so distant future. Possibly an nrx this time!. Thank you

Woah that combo is sick! I’m jealous!  (Nice fish to btw)

Congrats on both the catches and acquisitions! Is it too early to say, but can you comment on their sensitivity versus you previous gear? Is GLX beyond them in sensitivity and if so, by how much? A lot? A little? Thanks.

Thank you! It is still pretty early to give you proper feedback yet but from initial impressions they are beyond my expectations and well above what I was using. My previous set ups were an older kistler helium lta, and a high end rod from another company as my flipping stick for mid to heavy jigs. Now the 894 is lighter, better balanced, little softer tip, way more sensitive. Not quite as stout but still loads of back bone for 99% of what I’ll be doing!

The 852 is rated for 1/8-3/8oz and the kistler is rated for 1/8-3/4 oz. I didn’t think Rods got much lighter then that. It’s a great rod but it’s almost too stout for finesse, but felt almost over loaded with a 3/8oz-1/2oz jig and trailer. I used it for senko’s and small weighted senkos and it did okay, but made for a nice paddletail rod medium heavy fast action. The 852 is lighter, faster tip, and can launch a weightless senko further then I could possibly imagine! Unbelievably sensitive, but it’s strickly a finesse rod!

Gorgeous combos and gorgeous fish bro. I can't wait for the day when I finally have a boat and can upgrade to higher end rods. I refuse now because they get beat up on the kayak. I love my jeep, but I still drool when I pull up next to a Ferrari ?

Thanks so much! I almost wished I hadn't asked.  You have given the baitmonkey ammo and more weight against me in court and have brought me closer to the dark side. ?

Nice combos, glad you're enjoying them.

Agree.  Nice looking combos and fish.  :teeth:  I've stayed away from Loomis because (from what I read) the ones worth the money (over other brands) cost more than I have been willing to pay.  I could sell 5 or 6 of my rods to buy one Loomis.  But which 5 or 6?

Not too long ago I purchased a few better rods (that I got at a good price), and know that I would fish higher end if feasible even though I don't catch more fish.  I just like knowing I have nice gear.

Haha I know what you mean. My first “nicer” rod was on a wicked sale and thought I was getting a steal of a deal. Next thing you know I’m curious as to what the next level is like, and the next level. Sooner then later I was purchasing rods after rods after rods, each one being higher end then the last. That first nicer rod was a loomis, and after trying many other brands the loomis is what keeps me wanting another

Same here. I started with an Ugly Stik for $40 which I told my wife "was just fine for catching fish!". Then I bought a $70 rod. Then $90. Then $120. Finally I bought a GLX and thought "that's it!". But, 2 NRX rods and a custom rod later........

Enjoy your new GLX rods and thanks for sharing!!!!!!!

It is very surprising how good the deals on last gen Loomis IMX and GLX rods can be.  You have to look around and be ready to pounce, but I managed to put together a nice little kayak lineup of them for a lot less then I thought it would take.

Take a look at one of the Loomis MBR rods, either the GLX or the Conquest.  They are really really nice and a joy to fish most any presentation with.  I think a 3 power MBR would complement your other two rods very nicely.

Conquest is far outside my budget so it will be glx or nrx only. What’s the benefit of going the mbr over the jwr? What do you like to use a 3 power mbr for?

Yea, I want to try a Conquest quite badly after handling one in a store, but I can wait 1-2 more years for more used ones to start showing up.  It was like holding a rigid feather, crazy light in hand.  But, like, it was not a $250 difference for me over the same rod with a GLX blank.

I have five MBR rods, three of them being 3 Powers, a cr723 IMX, cr723 GLX, and a new model mbr783 GLX.  I use them for almost any presentation that weights between 1/4oz and 3/4-7/8oz, except for more "specialized" ones, like a dropshot.  They are a great jack of all trades rod, sensitive enough for bottom contact, a soft enough tip to cast great and protect thin hooks but enough butt to fish 80% of the cover I encounter up here.  I think in your case, a 3 power MBR, along with your other two rods, will cover a huge range of applications and complement each other very well.

Thank you! I’m not ready just yet to make another purchase. I actually need 2 more reels and debating on pulling one of the chronarch off, moving it around and trying a metanium to see if there worth there money over the chronarch.

i was talking to a gentleman who’s sponsored by shimano/loomis and he fishing tons of the glx and nrx. I was asking him about the conquest and he said everyone that he fishing with (other guys sponsored) were excited by the conquest but after fishing them a season, most sold them to go back to a glx or nrx. Not that they weren’t nice but the difference didn’t outway there steep price and that the  new glx’s and nrx are so close it’s not overly worth it.

Spending other peoples money is almost as much fun as spending mine! ?

I’ve heard that about the conquest before as well, that it’s a pretty small improvement over the NRX/GLX.  For me the ergonomic difference is enough to make me want one, but be willing to wait for the right deal.
