Questions about Okuma Tcs

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting the Okuma tcs 7'0mh for crankbaits, and I  have no clue what the action is. Is it a moderate or  fast action? And if you have experience with these rods which one would you recommend for 3/8 oz squsrebills, lipless cranks, and jerkbaits? Also, are moderate action rods suited for chatterbaits and swimjigs?  Thanks in advance for the help guys!

This is the TCS model I would get for cranking;

TCS-C-701MH A 8-15 LBS 3/8-3/4 OZ 9+TIP 7'0" MH

M/MF

Personally, I don't like a moderate action for bladed jigs (I don't fish swimjigs much at all), but others do. I think it really depends a lot on personal preference. I felt I missed a lot of fish on the moderate action and feel I need more a jig type rod with the big single hook.

Listen to Bluebasser. He is the guru of everything Okuma.

So I was looking at the 7'0 mh All purpose rod, I heard the Okuma has a much slower action than most rods so I was wondering if it was slow enough for crankbaits but not to slow that you couldn't use it for any thing else? Or should I just stick with a dedicated cranking outfit?

If you were going multipurpose, that would probably be your best option. Cranking is one of those techniques I feel you really benefit from having a dedicated combo for though if you can afford it.

@Bluebasser86 what are your thoughts on the TCS spinning rods? Specifically the 7 M and 7 ML?

I haven't used the TCS spinning but I do have an EVX spinning rod that I love. It's very versatile rod. I've caught 2 over 6.5 on it this year and it handled both with ease. I'd have no doubt the TCS spinning rods are great quality as well.
