Dock Skipping - what line do you use ?

Featured Replies

Since I need to improve the dock skipping (my weakness) with my baitcaster.

What line do you use ? Mono, FC or Braid ? How many Lbs ?

Whatever is currently on my reel.

I assume since you are using a baitcasters you are skipping jigs. With that being said I like a heavier floro or mono line. I currently have 20lb Shooter floro on an ALX Dock Skipping rod with a Diawa Tatula SV TWS 8.1 and that works well. I have used 17lb and that works just as good for me. I stepped up to 20lb because I am usually skipping behind docks and under / over cables. Mono feels a little stronger and is cheap to replace. I only use a half spool and change often when fishing tournaments because the line can get kinked.

Yes, for my baitster. Im using Dawia SV103XS (7.9)

I was thinking using 20 lbs Yo-Zuri Hybrid.

For mono, what braid that is cheap for practice ?

I tried some sunline defier armillo on my jig rod for a little while before switching back to floro. For whatever reason I could skip easier with the sunline but lost some feel so didn't like the trade off

Sunline assassin is good fluoro to skip with. Handles very well and has great knot strength with a San Diego jam knot

I'll skip a dock with whatever reel I happen to be using and I have braid, copolymer, and fluoro on my jig/trig rods. I don't know that one really works better than the other, but I'd probably start with the cheaper option because you're going to get backlashes.
