Is the Daiwa DX Heavy too heavy to throw 1 1/2 ounce baits like Gantarel jrs and s waver 168? I want to get a rod that can comfortably throw 1-4 ounce swimbaits but, I know rod companies exaggerate their weight limits. Am I better off getting a MedHeavy or heavy these baits.

My brother had the heavy and swapped it out for the MH for the reasons that concern you. Much happier with the MH. Throws those exact baits and others in that range nicely. A Hudd 68 is about the biggest we'll throw in LI waters. He paired his DX with a Lexa CC300.

Thank you. I’m leaning towards the MH right now.However, I do have a 9” magslowl and will soon to be getting a deps 175. I don’t know how those baits will fare with the MH.

I’m having the same issues right now. Have you decided on one and if so which one did you choose?

Daiwa swimbait rods are not moderate action they more fast action rods with a longer cork handle then most. The best way to decide on a swimbait rod lure rating is add the low and high recommended lure weight and divide by 2; 1-4 =5 Divide 2= 2 1/2 oz, that should be the high end lure weight you use. When in dought go up in power.
