Shimano Slx vs Dobyns Fury

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I was thinking for my next spinning rod I should get either a Dobyns Fury 702 or a Shimano Slx medium light. I have a fury and I really like it but after hearing the guys say they prefer the slx I'm in two minds. I'll put on either a Daiwa Fuego LT 2500 or a Daiwa BG 2500, cant decide between the two reels either, but I'm kinda leaning over to the BG. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I mean... those guys know their stuff.  Fury is hard to beat bang-for-buck on the heavier end, but I'd take TB's word for it on the ML.

I own serval Dobyns and love them.  I am curious about the SLX too.

I love my Sierra 702s I bought during the last TW sale.

Handle them both. One will speak to you.

The problem with the SLX is that the selections are so limited.

If you are planning on pairing the rod with a Daiwa reel stick with Dobyns.

I can't be the only one that gets the shivers thinking of a Daiwa reel on a Shimano rod or vice versa :wink7:

Their stated reason is a preference for long leaders, which do not play nice with Daiwa's TWS line guide.

If I remember correctly, it was not only their preference of long leaders, but also the size of the line they are using (heavier line) causing thicker knots which would cause problems with the TWS.
