I've decided to take the plunge on purchasing an NRX. I am looking at the 853C JWR specifically as it seems to be an all-around use model. Wondering if anyone has experience with this model and know what baits it excels with? Thanks!

I own the 853C JWR NRX, it is a great rod, and does have some versatility to it.  I find that it fishes jigs in the 3/8 oz range very well, but once you get closer to 1/2 oz the rod quickly feels overpowered and seems to not be able to provide a reliably strong hook set.   If I were buying a new NRX JWR and wanted one that would provide more versatility my choice would be the 854C.     Also if space allows you might consider the 873 or 874, many prefer these rods to the 85* models.   Either way you will enjoy the rod.

Totally agree with what Heartland said, great for small jigs... underpowerd for bigger ones! I actually never use mine for jigs, it´s my light Texas rig rod. I would say that 90% of the time i have a t-rigged craw on it (1/4 to 3/8 oz weigth), it also makes an excelent weightless Senko/Fluke rod. Great stick...

I too was set on the 853C but after more reading on here the past few nights I'm changing my mind and going with the 854C. 90% of the time this rod will be used to throw a 3/8 jig plus trailer and from what everyone says the 4 power will handle that much better.

I have both.  853 is light t-rig/weightless senko rod for me.  It would be fine for 1/4oz jigs I think.  I throw the 3/8+ on GLX 894.

I've even thrown small keitechs on the 853.

I would highly recommend the 854 over the 853 for you.

Here's the problem whenever you want to purchase either the 853 or 854. Once you buy one, you will quickly know that you need the other to compliment it.

That's my dilemma too, I can't justify both but I know when I get one I'll want the other!

Thank you everyone for your comments! I decided to go with the 853C as i would like to fish jigs lighter than 3/8oz and lighter paddle tail swimbaits!
