Hey guys/gals,

Is it more efficient to have the TM mounted on the front or back of the boat?  I have a 9 foot BPS pond hopper and currently have the TM on the front, but wondering if it would be better mounted on the back of the boat.  Eventually, I would like to get another larger one for the back as main propulsion and the smaller one on the front.

On the front is easier to controll in currents and such. However I use mine on the transon(rear) and don't have any problems. You have to pay a little more attention when in current cause the boat will tend to over correct more.

Thanks, I guess that is what I really wanted to know. If it was easier to control the boat with the TM in the front or back.  I currently have it in front, so I will probably leave it there.

In a 9ft Pond hopper it should be easy to try it both ways.  You could even switch while on the water.  Let us know which way you prefer.

It would be easy except, I have TM plug on the wires and the only plug on the boat is in the front.  The wires aren't long enough to reach all the way to the front, so I would have to take the plug off and put on regular connectors to use in back, that is why I haven't tried it yet

Personally I think it's much easier to control on the bow.  That's the way I originally had mine, but that all changed the first time we got caught in an unexpected WINDY T-Storm.  If you get caught in a white cap situation the bow of the boat will tend it dig  into the waves with the t/m mounted up front.  You will take on water and LOTS of it.  With the t/m mounted on the back, the bow seems to ride the caps much better.  So for safety reasons only I keep mine on the back.

Here's what you have to look at when you're putting just a trolling motor on a boat. Pretand there is a chain on the ground, someone asks you to grab that chain for them. The chain is too heavy and awkward for you to pick up. Would you rather pull or push the chain?

I got my pond prowler last season and had the tm on the front all last year. This season I switched it to the back and like it much better. But it's all personal preference.

I have mine on the back.  I am still playing with the layout of my jon boat but the rear half of the boat is where I fish from and I run the motors.

I agree! it's easier to control and you'll notice the difference on a windy day.  Rear mounts are frustrating in 15-20mph winds and you'll feel like your battling with it all day.
