Bought my first fish finder the other day, an Eagle 245 DS. Trying to figure out the best way to mount the transducer (sp). I'm really not a fan of drilling holes in the back of the boat, you know that whole sinking thing . I'm considering mounting off the trolling motor, but not so sure about all the going up and down, we a re really shollow water also. The boat is a 16 foot jon boat. Any ideas?

I've got a 10' plastic Pelican, I mounted my transducer on the trolling motor. Seems to be protected pretty well by the motor's skeg. I fished  a cypress swamp absolutely loaded with underwater stumps without a problem. For what it's worth, I mounted a 2"x4" strip of velcro on the gunwales and also on the bottom of the video unit bracket. I haven't decided yet whether I want to drill into the plastic (or know the best way for that matter). Rocks a little, but it's attached pretty firmly.

For fishing the best place is off the trolling motor but if you push your boat with an outboard the sounder on a TM should not be in the water. Drilling some holes should not be a problem use marine silicone around the screws. I have seen a gadget that fastens into the boats drain hole that transducers mount to I assume they are still available.

I wanna be able to lift the motor and still know my depth. Unless you are running dual fish finders forget the trolling motor mounting.

we just bought a new 14ft lund for my father in law, it had the fish finder already mounted to it. the guys who did it just ran the cable down the outside of the transom and screwed the transducer to the outside of the boat. it was a really clean assembly. Not sure how great that is, as I am new to fish finders, but it seems to work just fine.

Mount it off the back and you can use one of these.

On my 16' Alweld I mounted the transducer on the transom and the finder on the front deck; then I kicked the font size up so I can read it while running. Use some silicone on the screws and you'll be good to go.

You can run 2 tranducers from 1 unit with a switch from Lowrance it's a pain when you move to the front but cheaper than 2 units.
