Fiberglass repairs are needed

Featured Replies

Besides my tire getting Shredded and waiting 2 hours to get it fixed because I forgot my key to my tool bend to get my tools. I have a 2003 Triton TR-185 bass boat, my gear shifter became loose, (which is on the right side)the screws came out of the fiberglass, so I need to repair that. Does anybody have any ideas,  thank you I hope I explain this well enough.

If you have access to behind where the shifter mounts, a quick fix would be to cut a HDPE sheet to size to fit behind the fiberglass, then screw into that with slightly longer screws.

Amazon has HPDE sheets in 12"x12" - cut it with a sabre saw, miter saw or table saw.

Did the screws tear out?

@WRB yes they did. 2 of the 3 did. Not much room to work.

You can either use fiberglass cloth fibers and Marine-Tex expozy to fill in the holes after reaming them out and re-drill the holes or ream the holes for a threaded brass insert that expands when the screw is inserted. Go online and look at fiberglass screw repairs or Marine-Tex for boats.

The first thing I'd try is larger screws unless the holes are all messed up.

Thanks Tom,  I did see a Marine-Tex repair kit on line that should do the job of filling the holes. Hopefully I’ll get it all done soon. Need to fine a new rim and tire next.
