Ultrex Steering Problem

Featured Replies

A week ago Sunday we fished our first tournament and I had a small and short lived issue with my Ultrex trolling motor. When we started early in the morning at our first spot I put the trolling motor down and noticed the steering was extremely slow and no matter how hard I pushed in either direction on the pedal the speed was not right. The trolling motor sounded a little different when trying to turn and was not as responsive. After about 20 minutes of this it finally snapped out of it and started working normal again. A couple hours later we pulled into a different spot and it did the same thing again but only for a minute or so. Other than those two instances the motor worked fine all day. Not sure if the weather might have effected it but it was very cold early on (33 degrees at takeoff). The trolling motor is about a year old and I have never had any issues with it.

We are heading down to the Ozarks this weekend and hopefully we have no problems with it. I have be going out every night and testing it out in the garage and it seems to be working fine. We are taking a spare trolling motor down with us in case we have problems.

Any thoughts on what this could have been?

Take it to a minnkota repair shop for warranty. Could be first signs of frozen foot pedal

unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in :)

I’ve turned off the circuit breaker and it helped momentarily. Still turns ok counter clockwise but very hard and slow clockwise. Call minn Kota they said to call technician. They ordered parts. Hopefully get it done soon.
