I don't think my complaints over these rods is going to stop, and I apologize to people who like them.

 

Wether straight mono (6-10lb), straight Yo Zuri (6lb on 2500 reels), or 10-15lb braid, I'm getting a ton of line slap when reeling. If it's not braid, I treat it with KVD LL. I spool correctly.

 

What I did was go down to 1000 size and that fixed the problem, so I'm thinking anything above 2500 is going to do the same thing. This has been on 2 different Furys, and I've never had the issue before.

 

Why? What is the deal here? I'm now down to 2 Fury setups. I've sold 3 and went back to Fenwick. These last 2 setups are great for what I use them for. The whole Dobyns experience has been a nightmare since day 1.

I have the Fury 703 SF with Sienna 2500 with 12lb  and I don't notice any line slap. If there is any line slap I am not paying any attention to it.  

Sounds like 2 possibilities. 

 

1. Stripper guide too small

2. Stripper guide too far from real seat.

 

Best solution is to build your own

 

If you do that it's hard to complain about the build.....

I noticed that slapping sometimes when I'm reeling very fast. Try to reel slower. For me it works. It happens to me with 3000 reel.

What is the line slapping?  The blank or the guide?

It aggressively slaps the blank between the reel and the first guide. Did it on both spinning rods with various lines. Even when there's little to no slack, slap slap slap slap slap as you reel. I don't think there's a performance issue per se but that is not right and is annoying to listen to. Of the 5 Furys I've kept 1 spinning and 1 casting. Put a 1000 size on the spinning for Ned's and Wacky and it's fine. Doesn't slap much at all, just when there's slack and it's only a couple times. Kept a 3 power casting rod and just designated it as a vehicle rod for all purpose stuff. 

I had a Sierra 703 and currently still have and fish my Exteme 702HP. I have not noticed any line slap on either rod. But I'd have to say that I've only fishing them with 20lb braid. 

Seems the guide train is not high enough off the blank.  Definitely a design flaw.  I'm surprised I haven't heard about it more on here?   I agree, it's SUPER annoying.  Any line slap.  I made the mistake of putting 10# Fluoro on a spinning rod years ago, and it slapped during the cast, drastically reducing the distance.  I think you want to take you spinning reel into a shop, and try it on a new rod to test before you buy.

I just bought a Sierra 703sf spinning rod (different guides I believe from the Furry) ... I'll have to check my Daiwa 2500 reel with 15 lb. braid to see if I get line slap when casting and reeling . I had a Shimano 2500 Sedona that sat too close to my hand and would rap my knuckles on retrieve - I replaced with Daiwa spinning reels which sit a little further away from the rod than the Shimano did which solved the problem  ... *What brand reel are you using ?
