Met a guy today who t-rigs lots of stuff. He says he always puts a white or glass bead, big as the base of his nose weight, between the weight and the hook. I said, "Yeah. That's the clicker. Iovino sells them." He said no, it wasn't a clicker. A clicker moves; these are pegged. He says it's an eye. He says bass go for the eye, so he provides them an eye. I never heard of it like that. Have any of you done something like that, especially to provide an "eye" for the bass?        jj

I haven't heard of it for t-rigs, but doesn't sound like it would hurt anything to use it. A lot of people add eyes on soft swimbaits to add extra realism.

Did he have a favorite color?

 

I can see it working. Sometimes, the most subtle thing can make the biggest difference. I have seen LMB and Specks get turned on, by red hooks from time to time.

An eye? Never heard anyone call it that before but I use them all the time - they are just glass beads that come in multiple sizes/colors. They provide some sound when you peg a t-rig with a rubber stop about .5-1" inch away from the weight. I use them strictly for sound - don't know if they protect the knot.

 

I fish a lot of places with snotweed and sometimes it makes the transition from sinker to bait "smoother" so the bait nose doesn't pick that junk up as much. The wrong size bead has the opposite effect too.

   He only used white or clear glass. Smooth beads. Iovino's are faceted. It sure didn't look much like an eye to me, but then I'm not a bass, either.

   I think I'm gonna try it tomorrow with flukes.  We'll see ........         jj

Stick a craft fish eye on the bead if you think it helps. 

Back in the 80's halogram eye's was popular, jigs with eyes, everything had eyes added. Sounds like this guy is a hold over from that era.

Yep, I've heard of it before. Never bought into it, but like always, if adding an eye provides conviction - aka confidence - for fishing a lure then have at it.

I never thought of using a bead to resemble an eye . I have painted eyes on my weights before with black and white nail polish . Three eyes so one is always visible . I dont know if that got more strikes or not .

   I just got back from fishing. I don't think it makes any difference.  We'll see, though.      jj
