Im looking for advice on a all around crankbait rod that will throw just about any crankbait. I do a lot of kayak fishing and want to stay in a 4 rod set up. I have 3 rods now and want a crankbait rod. What is a good all around crankbait that will throw most crankbaits? I have a few I am looking at one is the Phenix Crankbait Casting Rod Glass 7'0", other is the ST. Croix Mojo Bass Glass 7'2". Any othr suggestions or experience with either of these 2 rods would be great. Will prob pair the rod with the Abu Garcia Revo Winch. Thanks in advance!

What crank baits are you throwing?

I fish out of a kayak 99% of the time.  I use a St Croix AvidX M/Mod for cranks.  I excursions where I plan to throw a lot of cranks and want to use two cranking rods my other one is a BassX MH/Moderate.

Yes, I understood that from your post. My question remains, what cranks are you throwing at this time?

If you throw mainly large cranks go with a m/h moderate. For mainly smaller cranks a med mod. I prefer rods in the 7' range. For square bills you could get away with a med fast rod which is actually what I prefer to throw them on. I fish a Powell crankbait rod. Nice rod but hate the reel seat and trigger position. I also fish a Fenwick m/h mod 7'3 cranking rod for big deep cranks. For price point I would look at 13 rods. I know a bunch of guys that use them and love them

7' MH/M-MF (1/4oz-1oz) Okuma EVX crankbait rod $99

 

For a shorter version, 6'8" MH/MF-F (1/4-1oz) Okuma EVX spinnerbait rod $109

 

The differences in the shorter rod are a split grip handle and a slightly faster action. It has more uses as well. Thought I'd mention it as it makes a great squarebill and lipless rod, and the shorter length might be desirable out of a kayak.

I throw square, shallow, medium on mine.  I hate throw deep cranks with it.  For those I use a MH/Fast.

That's going to be hard to find. Most crankbait rods that are good for shallow and medium divers are too whippy for deep divers.

Agree with above posts. 

I kayak fish, also.  I use spinning for cranks1/4 and less....St Croix Rage MF for everything over 1/4 to about 5/8.   

I have a St Croix glass crank rod that will throw up to about a 6XD, but I rarely use it....just never got comfortable with it.....so on the rare occasion that I want to throw something really deep like an 8XD, I use a long H flipping stick

While no rod will be perfect for shallow to deep, my Dobyns champion 765cb is a happy medium. It can throw shallows and it can throw deeps but it is one hell of a lipless rod. Its graphite so its super sensitive with a moderate tip that is perfect for all treble hooks. You can feel what your baits are doing underwater and bites stand out vs banging off structure. My whopper ploppers are comfortable to throw on this rod as well. There's a few reviews online which pretty much equate to this being Dobyns do it all CB rod which is the main reason why I got it. If you throw more shallows than deeps the 704cb might be for you. They also come in a glass composite version if glass is your thing. I prefer sensitivity.
