Can I use a frog hook on a hula popper?

Featured Replies

I lost the double hook that hides in the skirt of a hula popper and I have been hooking less fish because of it. Can I use something like this in its place? It looks the same I feel like it would work...

Give it a shot and let us know if it works.

You would be surprised at what the pros do to their baits so you have an open door to experiment.

No, those frog hooks are way too big for the back of a Hula Popper.

You need something like these in a size 6 or 4 depending on the size of the Hula Popper.

You could, but as mentioned above, they may end up being to big. They make open double hooks in all sizes, and you could always use a treble and cut off one point.

It is a weird setup, it slides into the ring and can be easily be pulled off. I will look around

I believe mine is 1/2 ounce, I think a size 4 would work great. Thanks for the link

I’m sure a lot of those tricks are never shared either:blink:

Most hula poppers have a screw eye for the rear hook. You could add a split ring, or open the screw eye (take it off the lure first) and slide the hook in before closing eye and screwing back in.
