another toad hack

Toad fishing yesterday . I caught about ten and lost  about the   same . Had trouble keeping the hook in the slot even if skin hooking . I have these rubber buttons  punched out of a bicycle inner tube with a hole punch that I use  for trailer hooks . I placed one on the toad hook and then slid it tight . It has enough tension to hold it in place but moves down easily during the hook-set . For the last hour I  used and it worked pretty good .It has to be replaced each time a new toad is rigged but one inner tube will make a thousand . I've only used it for that little bit but it  looks promising .

That's a cool trick, and not just for toads.

Nice work @scaleface. These would also work well as a keeper for fluke fishing - nose hooked with CPS inserted (Tactical Style).

I used to do this with plastic container lids, but inner tube is better yet.

*Already available at TW (search for: "Bait Buttons") ... Comes in two sizes + a dispenser . In certain cases where you want more give - the hole punch with bike tube idea may be a better way to go .

Well I'll be  . Maybe I saw those at one time and forgot about them . That happens a lot with me .

I use to punch little disc out of plastic lids for trailer hooks then i had the idea of using the inner-tube .

Smart.  I will do that too, now.

With your two toad tips I feel I can fish a toad properly now.  I see that belly bend in that pic ;) (I think).

Out of curiosity, what's got you using toads over soft-bodied frogs?  I had some hookup issues with toads too...single big EWG is notorious for not being a sure thing.  But a pad crasher is cheap, re-used until the paint is gone, and has a nice hookup.  Is it the action on reel-in?

I think I just threw away that old bike tire that was in the garage for 4 years.  Ima tell the wife "see I told you I needed it!".  I'm sure that will go over well.

I love buzzbaits and there has been an algae explosion on the lake I frequent . I cover water faster with a toad .

I tried the rubber button   out again  yesterday  and it worked great  .  In case anyone wants to know , I've been using a 5.0) Trokar EWG hook and the barrel swivel on the line and shank trick   . I caught 7 fish yesterday before having to change lures and that was a used toad from the  last trip .
