Daiwa Tatula "Rattle"

Featured Replies

I have had more than a handful of tatula's and love them except for the drive shaft rattle. If I pull on the drag star they rattle and when reeling in fast it can also be felt. Just received the new Elite and quite disappointed when it also has the same problem. Very pronounced if i shake the reel. And no the spool is not loose. I believe it comes from a loose drive shaft.

Anyone have a remedy?

Cut a plastic shim and place underneath the drive shaft inside the felt washer. I've done this to several types of different reels when the play was just a bit too much and it bothered me. Are you sure when you're shaking the reel, youre not hearing the line guide move? Some reels have a different amount of play in that part, some more that others. Try holding it with a finger while shaking and see if that helps. I've never had a reel where I've shook it and audibly heard the drive shaft move in and out, only ones where I had to push or pull it to feel the play.

I have the ct 100 and the fuego..both are silent and smooth as silk. Be interested to find out what the cause of your reel noise is.

They all do that.  You have to shake the reel in your hand to notice it though.  Once mounted to a rod no amount of swinging the rod around will get it to do it.

Negative. They all do very slightly but none as bad as the Tatula. Mounting on a rod is no different then holding in hand.....

I mean all the Tatulas do that.  They are not as refined as other Daiwa platforms.

Agreed! Just looking for a way to eliminate it.

Man, thats kind of disappointing about the Tatula Elite.

No kidding! I made a video of it but not sure how to put it here.

A thin plastic shim under the drive shaft fixes it.

I did add a shim under the shaft bearing and it is much better...

Weird, I don't notice it on any of mine? Maybe my wife is right and I do have selective hearing ?
