If you are on a 'budget' look at the Alpha CT SV instead of the Steez. A little bit heavier but basically same performance

Never used that reel, so no experience. I am hearing very good reviews of the Alpha CT SV. It also has some decent line capacity for 7-10# line. I think plat has them on sale right now. Also there is one on sale in the tackletour forum

Cant neither confirm nor deny that. I think it is a more versatile reel that shines from (a hair over 1/16th) to 1oz lures. 

Anything above 1/2 oz is probably more for pitching/flipping techniques with heavy line and short distances. 

For your described techniques, I think that reel would be a winner.

IPT is only 26’ on the 7.2, but it looks like it would throw Ned’s very well. The orange would look cool with the DX rods. Have you ever used the original pixy?

I have 3 and a half Pixies and depending on my spool/bearing set up they can cast about anything, but things like tiny hardbaits and hairjigs are far better on spinning reels still.  On the upper end I used one on a 783c most of the spring and summer, other then line capacity with 12lb fluoro, it preformed quite well with lures up to 1/2oz.  It was for sure not thumb-free casting, but the reel was controllable across a 1/4oz-1/2oz range and if I could have gotten a bit more line on it I would have kept it on the rod.

I agree that spinning gear is more effective, but is is also less fun.

I love both, catching big fish on light action spinning rods is a blast IMO.

It will fish heavier than its spinning counterpart.  I throw those baits all today long.  Truth be told, I may look for another as I throw a lot of baits around 1/2 ounce

I need a couple reels. I have a Bantam on the short list. I'll grab this one too. Thanks for the recommendation.

 

A medium will handle any "finesse" jig no matter the weight. What makes them finesse style is a light wire hook and most have fancy skirts to easily distinguish them in a tackle box full of jigs. With too heavy of a rod and a good hookset, you will bend your hook.

JDM tackle site.  They are legit but their site is a mess.  

I recommended thexLoomis PR845C decades ago for light crankbaits and wouldn't recocommend the PR844C for bottom contact use, it's a moderate action rod that casts extremely well but lacks feedback.

I do recommend Iovino Splash-It rod for finesse bottom contact lures like shaky head jigs, Senko's and Ned rigs that weigh a total 3/16 oz to 1/2 oz. I use my Daiwa original TD Fuego baitcasting reel with this rod for finesse bait casting. This rod is 6'8" weighing 3.6 oz, rated medium fast 1/4-1/2 oz lures, but the tip allows it to be used with a variety of lures including jerk baits and smaller crank baits like the Zoner Hunter. 

Shimano Expride A 7'2" ML casting rod would be a god choice for lighter weight lures, it's a 2 power rod.

No, handled haven't fished it. it seems to be about 1/2 oz lighter then the NRX but haven't weighed the rod. Maybe the NRX enthusiast can add the 852C weight, feels a little over 4 oz., the Expride 7'2" ML is lighter. Weigh your current Exprides for a ball park.

That’s really light. I’ve never held the 72ML or the 852, but perhaps the expride feels better due to balance.
