Spawn in August?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

It's August, and I was recently out at a lake in NC. It's Muddy, with water temp around the 80s. I found two active spawning beds, one on the north end, and one on the south end of the lake. From the best view I could get (1ft visibility in the shallows with glasses) they appeared to be bed of either shad, bluegill, and/or crappie. As still a novice to behavior, what would be spawning in August? Would bass be opportunistic in going after beds in the summer? The beds are located close to dropoffs.

Thanks all!

Bluegill and sunfish will spawn multiple times throughout the year under the right conditions. I've seen several areas of spawning gills and sunfish here lately.

Many panfish in MN were spawning as late as a couple of weeks ago, not sure what they are doing elsewhere.

Seems as though panfish are like swingers, down for whatever.

Every year I am surprised at how many pre-spawn fish we catch in July and the beginning of Aug.  My lake has always spawned in stages, but a few just party longer ?

Must be newly weds...give those fish a couple years, they’ll be in perpetual post spawn.

Bluegill were spawning in my pond last week here in Georgia.
