I've tried most and went into it thinking I could find a cheaper alternative.  All I managed to do was waste a lot of money figuring out the rage craw is my favorite.  Money I could've used on more rage craws. I do like cabin creek Express craws on my finesse jigs. Very similar action to rage craws. Have had very good success with them

Netbait Paca chunk and craw. The Z-Man Turbo Craw. I never drank the Rage Kool-Ade.

When a fish shakes it's head and both claws go flying off into the water it's hard to use mend-it on them

 

The bodies of Rage Craws are plenty durable but they don't catch many fish without at least one claw still attached.

Bass can't rip off the soft plastic craw claws unless you hook set too quickly.

Smallmouth and Spotted bass tend to strike the claws, LMB engulf the entire craw.

If you hook set when the bass has hold of the claws they get ripped off.

Change your timing not the trialer.

I didn't try to set the hook I was just dragging it slowly. We don't have any SM bass in the lake I was fishing. But on another note I have had basss carry my jig under my kayak then when I set the hook it pulls away. How long do I need to wait?

Bass don't have hands and LMB engulf everything when eating it unless they are spawning.

How long, about a nano second with LMB.

I am not a fan of Rage Tails, not because they may be fragile but the fast moving claws don't get as many quality strike as GYCB double tail grubs or Berkley Chigger Craws where I fish. Chigger Craws are less durable the SK Rage Craws, Yamamoto double ail and Cowboy grubs are very durable.

Generally I believe the LMB in SE Ohio are much smaller than So Cal so it is possble that they are biting off the tails. If we pull a 4 lb'er we've had a very good day around here.

14" or 1 1/2 lb  LMB can completely engulf a standrad size bass jig and trailer. If your bass average small size down size your jig and use 2 1/2" trailers. Try Skinner Bear pro jigs with Iovino 2" or 2 1/2" jig trailers, small jigs catch big bass.

I agree with you that SK Rage claws flap so fast attracting smaller bass and bluegill strikes, that is why I don't use them.

The majority of bass in any lake are under 12", very few adults over 24" and the big bass are all female, even in California.

While this may be partially true, in my experience using Rage Craws most of the time I've lost claws is when a smallmouth bass surfaces and shakes its head.  Then I watch one or both claws go flying into the water and I'm left with a craw body shaped ned worm.

If the claws are being pulled off all the time I would say it may be big bluegill.  I have had an issue like that fishing AEP ponds in Southeast Ohio

When you hook a bass and it's fighting most soft plastics can get damaged but that isn't the bass ripping off the claws striking it. 

The more durable a soft plastics is it's usually less life like and doesn't entice a bass to strike. The exception might be ZMan, haven't used it.

Choices, duable trailers or catch bass. I prefer pork rind it does both, nearly indestructible and soft with life like movements. I am not a fan of Rage Craws, too much moment attracting small bass, prefer GYCB Cowboy  DT Hula grubs and the fragile Berkley Chigger Craws that get destroyed with every bass hooked.

I use Yamamoto Flappin Hawgs or Hula grubs. Otherwise I use homemade trailers from a mold very similar to the Flappin Hawg. I like bulky and compact trailers.

I can vouch for the Z-Man TRD Crawz. In clear water I have seen Sunfish grab them by the claws, tug and run with them. I have not lost a claw to one yet.
