I'm looking to get a decent ultralight setup after trying it out for the first time and loving it!

 

What do you guys recommend for a good ultralight rod and reel? I don't really want to spend much over $80 for the both of them, just looking for a fun ultralight!

 

Also I don't mind getting the rod and reel separately. I'm looking for something around the lines of a 5'6" fast action ultralight unless anyone has a better suggestion! Mainly fishing for panfish, trout, and maybe bass.

Dicks has a 5’6” field and stream rod that is pretty good for the money. With a size 20 president it’s $80. I have two of these for panfish. There fun and good for the money. 

I like daiwa legalis LT 1000, about 50-60 if you look around. The rod you can get UL ugly stick but if you can spare a tad more, I’d get Daiwa Spinmatic or Daiwa presso (50-60)

Far left in this pic is a President 25 on a Diawa Spinmatic - been a great UL rig for me.

I bought a Shimano Sojourn, $20.99, on Amazon. Added a Pflueger Trion. That’s about $50 for both rod and reel. I’ll probably buy another one. It’s a great little rig. The Trion is a great value in reels in my opinion.  

You can get the trion 20 combo with a 5 ft UL rod for $42 on amazon.

Wanted to go a little cheaper, but I couldn't resist the Daiwa Products this time!

Good choice you’ll be happy with the set. 

I have a Daiwa Spinmatic 5'6", 4pc. Like others have said it's a great UL rod, I use it for trout. Reel I'm using the piscifun carbon x 1000, a bit underwhelming, not as smooth as I'd hoped it'd be given all the reviews online. I'll be upgrading to a Daiwa Tatula LT 1000 since my 2000 has been great for bass fishing, and it's the lightest reel I've ever held.

   You'll love that Presso. I had the 7 1/2 ft. and took lots of species (including 12-15 pike) in 4 years. Ultimately, the joint loosened up, or I'd still have it.   jj
