Today I almost got a citation from our patrol officer because I have 3 fishing poles with me. I tried to explain to them the different between having in possession vs fishing more than one pole. I even give the the example of how many setups on a bass boat but doesn’t seem it help. Too bad to have someone enforce the rules when they don’t know it clearly. I even paid for 2 poles stamps. I’m going to POA tomorrow to talk about this. In our POA stated only 1 pole allow per guest and these guys just only goes by that, don’t even care if I’m a resident not a guest. I need CA fishing regulation where it shows or explain the different.

BTW, I actually did get a citation for fishing on common docks. This is really stupid when you have patrols (minimum paying job) that think they are so much in power to give anyone citation. There are a lot of stories of home owners here get citations for talking back to those Patrols.

This lady patrol just said I cannot fish from a dock and want me to leave, I asked her back when this rule or regulation said I cannot fish from common dock. I tried to explain to her the last time I’ve heard is “Fishing from common docks is prohibited WHEN boats and/or swimmers present”. There was no one on the dock. The next thing I know she handed me the citation to signed. I had to go all the way to POA office to fight with this citation with her captain. Of course I win, but I had to explain a lot and point to those regulation to them. Man don’t they supposed to study rules and regulations where they work?

Could be possible that CA. regs don't apply to Private ponds/lakes. I.e. if you have a pond on your farm, you can pretty much fish as you want, being the size and type of fish in that pond. In that case then your POA has the authority to set the rules, even if they are somewhat ridiculous, or strict..You'd have to contact the DFG for an answer.

Pull up the regs and read them. Start with the fishing, it doesn't mean what you may think. The 2 pole stamp allows you to have 2 lines in the water and doesn't restrict the number of rods that you have with you.

Tom

I would have a hard time holding my tongue over such nonsense. Glad I'm in IN. The few times I've crossed paths with a game warden have only resulted in enjoyable chats.

Sounds like it is a problem with the lake officials and there rules... not the dfg.. All you can do is go to the lake governing body and plead your case/get clarification on what there rules mean

@Hammer 4it does and that the first thing our POA regulation written to follow CA Fishing regulation.

@WRBthat it is what I understand all along, two poles stamp meaning to have two line in water at once. My three rods were laying on dock. I tried to look up CA hunting and fishing regulation but can’t find the written regarding to this. The thing is all of them patrol seem to not knowing about this rule that why I need in written. I hope the POA board know what they are doing.

@The Bassmanit is not game warden it is about this nonsense citation because they think they can issue so they use that to threaten us homeowners. I think they think themselves as a cop? Not all though just some mostly brand new and young ones.

Inland fishing regulations, page 15, chapter 2, article 1, 2.00, General Fishing Methods.

"line in hand" , nowhere does the regulations limit the number of rods/lines not in hand. The term line includes hand lines or poles.

Under age 16 you may have 2 lines/poles in hand, adults must have a special stamp.

Hope that helps.

Thanks @WRB Tom, turn out the poa board who over see all security knows about this regulation so I don’t need that, but I’ll make sure to save a copy on my phone for those patrols.

Funny thing is, when I got there he said he knew why I’m here. He showed me the report that he just got from this patrol and in pictures it clearly shown that There is no one on that dock.

A little late, but here you go:

SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FRESH WATER CALIFORNIA

FISHING METHODS —GENERAL.(a) Except as otherwise authorized, all fish may be taken only by angling with one closely attended rod and line or one hand line with not more than three hooks nor more than three artificial lures (each lure may have three hooks attached) attached thereto. Anglers in possession of a valid two-rod stamp and anglers under 16 years of age may use up to two rods in inland waters which regulations provide for the taking of fish by angling, except those waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used. See District Trout, Salmon and Special regulations for exceptions.

It's been my experience that these people don't know what the rules are.

In my county there are 5 or 6 lakes to bring a boat or yak on. You have to get an inspection for the mussels. They don't inspect jack squat by the way, at least they never have for me, they just take my cash. They ask me if I've had my boat outside of the area and all I have to do is say no. That's it. What a crock.

Then it gets really stupid.

They put an inspection tag on your boat so that if you go to another local lake you don't need to pay for an inspection again as long as you have not been outside the area with your vessel.

Except at Coyote Lake. There they make you pay every time. When I asked the people there they said I was wrong and I have to pay every time no matter what.

But every other lake in the county honors the tags and I do NOT have to pay for another inspection. When I asked about it at another lake the guy said "They don't know what they're doing at Coyote, they're wrong"

I went back to Coyote again and the woman said that everyone else is wrong and she is correct.

Why even have the tags if I'm supposed to pay for inspection every time? Hello? McFly????

Even stupider:

Me and a friend brought his jon boat to Coyote. He'd just registered it that morning. The guy there said technically he's not supposed to let us launch for a MONTH after getting registered because we couldn't prove where the boat had been previously!

What? That makes zero sense! We did launch that day because he "looked the other way". LOL whatever dude.

And that's California in a nutshell.  California IS a nutshell - all the nuts are here!

As I said earlier in another thread today - I am outta here early next year.

This evening I was so happy I got check for fishing license again, this time by real warden. He sent a few groups home as I can see but not sure if any ticket issued. Glad to see them here in Canyon Lake since it is private lake and a lot dont follow the rules.
