I mean,i was just stating what I've caught... If we are just gonna tack down every species caught on an in line spinner you can pretty much throw every species on the list.. musky , walleye.. etc

Where I tend to throw them these day is mostly when the river does get clear is at smaller creek mouths that enter the river. Real slow in shallow water. I’ve caught some pretty nice smallies on 3’s, 4’s and 5’s along with dink’s and runts. Muskys show up out of nowhere to chase them down also. 30” plus up muskys on 6 lb. & 8 lb. test you have your hands full. Been there a few time while smallie fishing.

+ 1 on that. They put out a good product. 

 

I believe anything that swims will take one. There was a time (many years ago) I’d throw them exclusively but those were days and days ago. 

 

Primarily for trout i fish Panther Martins and bass is Mepps. 

Thanks for all your input. I`m that I purchased some Mepps inline spinners, and can`t wait to receive them.

A way to fish them faster without causing them to burn across the surface is to put a split-shot or two about 8-10" in front of the spinner. That way you can reel them in faster, trigger more reaction bites, and not have them skipping the surface. The split-shots keep the spinner down and being that far in front of it, doesn't affect the action.

I've taken a larger inline spinner, cut off the treble, added a split ring & screw lock weighted hook with a 3.5" plastic, and made an awesome rig for numbers of bass.

I just couldn't resist... I don't "HATE" any lure.  However, I dislike all inline spinners because of the propensity to hang them up every cast.  I know they're productive and have used them. But, I would rather catch fish on any other lure than an inline spinner. 

 

What's even funnier is the fact that you're so incensed about my hate you've asked twice why I did, LOL!  I truly just couldn't resist the urge throw that Tombstone reference out there. Ultimately, it was a joke..

 

When I was 13 I threw Mepps spinners and Mister Twisters on ball head jigs and caught tons of bass-then I grew up and got "smart". As most have stated, they are great fish catchers, I should probably dust them off!

@Big Rick Iwas just baffled and very curious about anybodys dislike of the mepps lure. Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to appreciate your tombstone reference. Lol. I'm aware of it but never watched it. 

 

I also don't like your reasoning for not liking them. Because then you would dislike all treble hook lures , any place you're getting a mepps caught up those same places would treat a crankbait the same way.. 

 

Cool thing about bass fishing is there are 101 ways to catch em. I don't use mepps anymore for bass for that reason.. it literally may be the best all species lure to exist though.

Not true..... Most treble hook baits FLOAT and don't sink like a rock like Mepps do. Hence my dislike of them. But, I couldn't care less that you don't like my reason for not liking them. I'm sure Mepps is proud to have you as their self appointed ambassador, LOL!!

And ok most crankbaits float but are still just as prone to snagging when you're working the lure... 

 

I wouldn't fish them where they are prone to being snagged and they don't sink like a rock either they come in all kinds of weights and you're supposed to keep it moving anyway lol.

This......my next trip out will include Comet Minno's

Mepps spinners and rooster tails are great especially for creeks. 1/4 oz is what i use. Usually get smallmouth/pike with them

I like them just fine but they're not very weedless and the squirrel tails shouldn't be put away wet (if you don't want rusted and broken hooks later).

 

Don't know if they still make 'em or not but I like the Xtra Deeps for suspended crappie.

$4 and #5 are great for Pickerel (they go after anything shiny) as well as Bass and a variety of Panfish, such as Yellow Perch.

 

I had too many problems with the treble hooks snagging on weeds, so I replaced a bunch with single weedless hooks.
