Going to Guntersville this week for the first time and was wondering how hard it is to navigate where it is so shallow? Having some anxiety about it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any portion of the TN River can be dangerous without mapping.  Either buy a chip for your sonar or if you cannot afford that route, download Navionics on your phone and use it.  Keep an eye on the weather as SW winds can make it very rough on Gville.  Good luck man.

Keep the red buoys on your right going up river. A lot of bigger creeks will also have buoys. Once you get outside of the channels be careful and watch the depth. If you are unsure, just trim the motor way up and putz about 5-6 mph to get back into the backwaters . Toss the hollow frog on the scum from now until thanksgiving 

Most of the shallow water on Guntersville is marked with thick grass this time of year.  There are exceptions so be careful.  There are certainly places where you go from 35ft to 2ft very quickly.  My rule of thumb on the Tennessee river is I only run fast if I have two things telling me I'm in safe water.  That's two out of these three,  navigation markers, my GPS,  my personal experience.   

 

I agree with @TnRiver46,  Guntersville should be called Frogville.
