Another crank bait rod thread...

Featured Replies

So I'm looking to get my first crank bait rod and have scoured the internet and this forum but need a little help making my final selection.

I will primarily fish local ponds with fairly shallow diving crank baits less than 15 feet deep.  So i'm looking for a dedicated crank bait rod for lighter/shallow diving baits that i can carry around with me bank fishing that's inside of about $200.

I think I want a moderate action and i've got it narrowed down to a few choices:

Quantam Tour KVD Cranking Rod in the 7'/medium variety

St. Croix Mojo Glass in the 6'10" or 7'2"/medium

St. Croix Legend in either a 6'10" or 7'2"/medium

Dobyns Fury 704cb or 705cb

Anything suggestions to help me out?

I have a St. Croix Legend Glass that is fantastic.  If I had the cash I would would buy a few more.

I have tried several different crankbait rods over the years and this one is about the best technique specific rod I have used.  I would say the only down side is the weight and it is overall diameter but they don't seem to bother me or the fish I catch at all.

That's a good deal.  I remember checking these out last year and it's not a bad rod.  My only thing would be, I would be looking for something longer in a crankbait rod.

I also picked up a new crankbait rod at the same price.  I got a Quantum KVD Tour 7'10'' MH.  It's not as good as the St.Croix Legend Glass but for $60 it will toss a crankbait a mile and it's just flat out fun to fish.

I’m throwing cranks and jerk baits on the Great Miami from a kayak

A shorter stick works for me

Im thinking it might work in other scenarios

I should have been a little more detailed in my comment Sorry...... Nothing wrong with it being shorter rod.  I too have a 6'6'' G. Loomis that I use from a kayak for cranks.  It's just if I was going to add another crankbait rod, it's probably going to be around 7'.

I have a Dobyns FR 705CB paired with a a KK Assassin. I like it very much. I use it for anything with treble hooks.

Another vote for a St. Croix Legend Glass, I own a 6'10" and it is a wonderful crankbait rod.
