Loomis SJR782 imx good enough or go Glx?

Featured Replies

Recently ordered a new Imx pro CR722 casting rod.  Have not got it yet but Dealer is giving me a good price and a bit better price again if I order another.   So I’m considering updating my E6X Wjr782 at same time to basically the same rod in imx pro or perhaps glx.   Which one would you all go with based on your experience? I feel like imx will be a good upgrade from my E6X and looks like it will be comfortable and familiar. Like the look and the full grip.  But will I be missing out on anything by not making jump to GLX?   The price difference is slight So if I’m updating for the long term it’s not really a factor here.  The glx im not crazy about the split grip and have read the reel seat is perhaps a concern?   I’m picturing this being a long term all around spinning rod so want to make the right choice..

I should add my loomis rods at present time are E6X so this will be my 1st jump up.  The one I’m looking to update is pre 2018 model

I have fished both and each are great rods. If you really do not like a split grip I think you answered your question for yourself! I prefer the GLX, I chose sensitivity first but actually liked the longer front grip also! To each their own! Pick the one you will enjoy to fish with the most!

I have been fishing both the IMX pro and GLX in the same model for a couple of months.  Since I use braid on my baitcasters there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the two.  The GLX is very slightly lighter it seems but that may be due to balance?

The reel seat on the GLX does not fit my style of holding a reel at all.  I have thought about selling them and getting more IMX Pro but they seem to lose much more value than I thought they might so I will just fish them.  The IMX Pro fits just fine.

These are both the latest models if that matters.

Edit:  FWIW this does not carry over to the spinning models for me.  GLX is the clear winner in that category.

Thank you! So In casting I will stick with imx pro.  Seems the reel seat is a concern for many and for moving baits Im sure it’s plenty nice.   But on this spinning rod I’m looking to upgrade I want the best available for sensitivity.  So you have no issues with the reel seat on the latest Glx spinning models?

I have thay GLX and the reel seat has never been an issue.  That said I prefer the GLX MBR with braid.  It just works for me

Yep it's all about the feel.

It's just a little big for me but I deal with it for the sensitivity.

Thanks guys, I really want to want the SJR GLX and this is helping.  Anyone run one with a stradic Ci4 2500 or 3000?  I have a 3000 and hoping it pairs well with GlX or Imx pro

Jaybert, I run a 3000 stradic on my 842S GLX (newest version). Been fishing for 30+ yrs and this is one of my favorite setups. They go together very well and I personally love the handle on the GLX spinners.

Right on thanks for the help.  I’m thinking GlX is the way to go and I’ll probably like the spit grip once I’m used to it.  It will be a long wait till spring now

Ok so final pricing came in on this and with discounts from my local small tackle store the glx SJR782 is $90 more (cdn) than the imx pro sjr.  I’m actually leaning to the imx pro. Not so much because of the  $90 but I think they look sharp and would still be a good higher end choice all around.  Got my imx pro CR722 I had ordered and I have to say it’s really nice although I  won’t be able to fish it for a while yet. Is that nuts to not go to glx for $90 difference? Got to be lots of fish caught by happy imx owners over the years I would think.
